Default HTIB Speakers

Would the Speakers from my Sony HTIB be compatible with one of those Onkyo Receiver's (Which I am planing to buy) as it seems the speaker output's from the two receivers are completely different.

i think that would depend on the specs of the speakers and new receiver. but most sony htib system ive seen have special speaker hook ups that would require you to cut the wire in order to use it with a regular receiver. that i do not recommend doing.

Most Sony HTiB have an impedance of 3 ohms (speakers and receiver) and if you don't match the speakers to a receiver with the same impedance, you may damage the equipment. If you can find and Onkyo receiver with an impedance of 3 ohms, please tell me, but as far as I know, Sony's HTiB speakers usually don't work well with other receivers.

Exactly !! You may well damage your Onkyo receiver by using those 3 Ohm speakers. Most speakers have an impdence of 8 Ohms. Before purchasing any, look on the back and make sure they are 8 Ohm speakers.

Wow, I did not think of ohms were a factor when posting this. How about a 4Ω receiver (Not like I know one its just I know there a bit more common). I also could not find 3Ω Sony receiver or is it that I just did not look hard enough?

There are plenty of 3 ohm receivers. Take Sony's SS360, for example. It has 3 ohms and is packed with 5 excellent speakers that match the reciever's impedance.
