Default The Prices of Blu Ray Movies!!

On what factors does the price of a blu ray movie depend?

Is it the popularity of the movie? how well it is transferred in blu? the edition? bluray disc capacity?

These can be understandable if taken in mind but what I cannot understand why some blu ray movies prices come down fast while they were released just recently while others stay unchanged or slightly changed while they were released maybe more than a year ago?

Do the studios have any control over the price of their movies? or is it just the retailers??

How well it was transferred in Blu and the capacity of the disc have little bearing on the price. Studios have their own pricing policy for new and catalog releases. Retailers may choose to price the movies below very low and take a loss to enhance traffic/customer loyalty.

Also depends on your locale.

Blus in the US seem to be a lot cheaper than in the UK, usually with a straight dollar to pound conversion. e.g. the new Harry Potter is $16.99 on amazon.com and £16.98 on amazon.co.uk.

Not sure why there is a difference (I'm not an economist) but it's not just limited to blu-rays.

Thats true but I'm talking here about the US. and I mean from a movie to another. Some prices come down very fast while others stay at the same level for a long time.

Usually it's the studios that are responsible for that.

Sometimes certain titles simply do not sell at full price. To reduce inventory, studios will often lower the price of a BD after it has been on the market a certain period. Warner for instance is generally very aggressive in discounting catalog titles so that they become impulse buys and to eliminate the lost sales in the secondary used market.

I lived in the UK for a year and a half in the mid 90s and I was amazed at the difference in prices on cds. Sometimes the prices were triple. I remember there were times when paying $20 for a USED cd was considered a steal in London.

I prefer getting them cheap. If you check my collection, a lot of them are under $20. If it's a new release I try to get it if I can find it around $20.
