Default AV signal drop out PS3

The system:
PS3 to monoprice HDMI switch to Yamaha receiver to westinghouse tv.

The problem:
My audio and video signal often drop out. Sometimes recovering in a matter of seconds, but sometimes I have to unplug and replug my HDMI cable.

What I have tried so far:
HDMI Cable:
Used a different cable and still got drop outs ruling out the HDMI cable
Monoprice switch:
My Xbox is running through the same switch. It works fine using the same cable the PS3 was using ruling out the switch
Yamaha receiver:
The Xbox runs through the same receiver as well as the cable box. Neither have problems. The Xbox has been tested on the same HDMI port without problems. I also ran the PS3 directly to the TV. In this instance the dropouts still happened but seemed to recover more quickly. I assume because the signal was more direct and not being processed through the receiver and switch.

This leads me to believe the PS3 is the problem component. I am guessing it is either being caused by loss of signal all together or an HDMI handshake issue. I am out of warranty period. Anyone have any ideas or do you think I need a new PS3? This may or may not have been caused by the recent system update.

i wouldnt rule out the switch. try using the ps3 directly through the receiver without the switch. it may work fine. the ps3 just may not like the switch.

As stated I have tried the ps3 directly to the tv and the issue still occurs. That would rule out the switch.

Sounds like it could be the PS3. Have you tried contacting Sony?

Just did. Havent heard back yet. I am also restoring the system now. It says itll take a few hours, but I assume if it is a software issue that would resolve it.

i dont remember the version number but i did the update last week that took out the "other os" support. it started around the same time so I am looking at that as a possible cause.

oops. missed that. then as already stated i would say its the ps3. i would try component for video and hdmi for audio. perhaps that could work until sony fixes the issue if you think it was caused by the update.

How long is the HDMI cable? HDMI ports can go bad, especially if one treats them roughly, but often on longer runs you need a higher quality cable than the basic, cheap HDMI.

Wasn't there a handshake issue with Westinghouse tv's and the PS3?

I had a handshake issue in the past but it was actually a result of my Yammy receiver. The PS3 has actually worked flawlessly with the TV for a year or 2 up until now. The TV is the TX series.

Just an FYI I THINK I may have fixed it. I did a system restore hoping it was software and update related. I managed to get through an entire game without the problem and it usually manifests itself before I get into a game.

It wouldnt have been all bad as I would have snagged me a slim, but not having to shell out cash is nice too.
