First off, im sorry guys. Cos I have this feeling that I'm going to annoy people
who think you shouldnt expect big things from the browser, and shouldnt be using the PS3 to watch youtube, but sorry, that's literally 80% of what I use the machine for and the final thing that sold me into parting with my cash. Youtube - How the F**k can one of the worlds most popular sites all of a sudden stop working because you need to upgrade your flash player and Sony NOT respond to/or anticipate the problem? For the last three day, youtube is busted for me, and from all my efforts online trying to find a solution, it looks like im screwed. Facebook - Again, popular site, and they announce with a fanfare that your trophys will be able to feed through as updates, .....of course, they dont bother their ass solving the fact that you cant comment on any posts, etc... Absolute joke. ![]() Apart from just allowing me to vent, jesus christ, please someone tell me a way of fixing the problem I have with youtube and I'll be eternally grateful. Cheers, Alan |

I agree with you 100%. The browser needs some major work done.
It freezes on me all the time. I don't understand how sony can't tout having a browser when its hardly usable. Who exactly is in charge of making sure these things work on the PS3? one guy? 2? a team? maby its a monkey. Sony needs to get the idea that Apps are cool. Don't send me to a damn website that the browser can't handle. |

Browser definitely needs to become more versatile.
However, that is not a reason to come in and start hating on the PS3. Did you seriously buy a PS3 just for YOUTUBE & FACEBOOK browsing? The system may "do everything," but the web browser feature is an added obligatory feature. If the PS3 didn't have the browser, then it may have sold 3 fewer units in total since launch. I can deal with the browser problems as long as the market continues to offer top quality BDs and PS3 games. Everything else is just gravy on an already amazing hot sandwich. |

Thanks for the feed back guys, it actually makes me fell less angry to know
other people are in the same boat!! In regards to getting it for FB and youtube, I gotta be honest mate, the browser was the one feature that made me drop the 600 euro to get the ps3 and a tv that did it justice. The games are fantastic, the Blu ray discs? - simply stunning, but personally yeah, I literally use the console 80% of the time for the net. I'm not expecting it to open PDF files or do anything special, but for the love of baby Jesus, what developer doesnt at least ensure that lets say the top 30 most popular web sites are accesible/functional. Did they do ANY type of testing on the browser at all?!?! Shoddy work by the lads at Sony. Last edited by alanlad; 03-13-2010 at 10:59 PM. |

I do have to agree as well that the browser is pretty crappy. They do really need to fix YouTube on there as well because it is pretty bad that a site they link you to on the homepage isn't even functional anymore. I hardly use the browser, but I still think Sony needs to do a major overhaul on it. License Firefox and get rid of the current browser and all would be fixed.

The browser used to work decently but over the last year the experience has gotten steadily worse. It's gotten to the point where the browser will freeze up the PS3 every 10 minutes or so.
Either more and more web sites are using html & flash features that make the PS3 browser freeze or new bugs are popping up in the firmware and never getting fixed. My guess is Sony is going to use that mobile Firefox browser once it is ready to replace the current one. They've probably quit maintaining it in anticipation of mobile Firefox. |

YouTube's working normally through the XL and regular interfaces for me.
Haven't a clue about commenting on Facebook. Quote:
Flash is another problem, on many platforms. Not just incompatibility but also freezing browsers. I don't know what sort of relationship Sony has with Adobe and how much control they have over development of Flash for the PS3. When a site breaks compatibility with more popular browsers, you don't see the browser patched within days. It's not always a fault with the browser. Not sure why you'd expect this or for Sony to start commentating on future system software updates. Last edited by Shin-Ra; 03-14-2010 at 01:11 AM. |

I agree with you 100%, Shin-Ra! Also, I have no problems with Youtube via my PS3 browser. Another thing is that I post to this site mostly via my PS3 browser (like now).

Like it was said earlier, Youtube works fine on the browser. As for Facebook, I would suggest you use the same method you used to access it before you got a PS3. If it is that important to you, now, sure you had to be able to use it somehow.
Your only CURRENT workaround is installing Linux on the PS3, IF you don't have a slim model. |

I haven't had any problems with Youtube yet at least. I think we'll probably end up seeing some fixes for things in firmware sometime soon to fix some of the problems people are having since it seems with every firmware update they tend to tweak the browser and internet with every update

I just checked my PS3 browser and youtube is working. However, I did have a problem with it and a few other sites last week. I chalked it up to being a problem HTML5. Though I don't know what or how it fixed it's self.

From what I heard Flash is a memory hog and will not work well on anything but a PC. Thats why Apple refuses to use it on the iphone/itouch and could be the reason why Sony doesn't want to use it.
