Default PC: Print Screen

OK so I'm using Power DVD 7.4 on my PC and I wanna take a screenshot of a movie, but you know just one screenshot, not COPY THE ENTIRE film like I read on the internet. PowerDVD doesn't allow me to take screenshots, any suggestions on how I can do this? I mean I just wanna show friends and maybe you guys a couple screenshots of films that I buy so I can show PQ quality.

I think you need special software for the Print Screen button to work. I had such a program called print screen 32 when I was on XP. Now I am on Vista 64 Ultimate and cannot find a program that works properly. I only get black screen shots.

Try pressing ALT-PRTSCN at the same time and it will save the window to memory (clipboard). Then you can paste the content to a program like PAINT or WORD using CTRL-V. Goodluck!

Yes, sort of. I just did it actually. Just hit the print screen button once (no button combinations needed) of the image you want to save, then open Microsoft Paint, in the edit menu just click paste and "voila" there you have your screen shot.

They disabled it because people wrote programs before DeCSS that would simply press the button 30x a second and create a filmstrip file

Who disabled what? I just saved a screen shot using Power DVD in the method that I described in my last post.

I take it back. I thought I could save it, but it's only temporary. The image stays in Paint only as long as you have the Power DVD running. When you try to save the actual screen shot in either jpeg or bitmap form, you only get a black screen. No image. That sucks.

Pressing print screen alone will capture the entire desktop screen, but pressing the Alt key in combination with print screen will capture the currently selected window... unless ofcourse you are in a full screen mode.

You have to disable Hardware Acceleration or you will get a black screen/picture as the capture.

This may not work when trying to capture from the BD itself though, because PowerDVD may not work right(at all) with HW Accel disabled.

I rip the BD then playit back through PowerDVD with accel off.
Works fine reading from HDD.

EDIT: From the ripped "The Wild" BD:

When you go to Power DVD's configuration menu and click on the "Video" tab there is only an option to enable it. I think it is disabled by default.

Third button from the right on PowerDVD is Capture frame.
When playing *ANY* Blu-ray video(disc or rip) that button changes to Popup Menu.

To get the screenie you see, I had to kill acceleration and open the 17GB M2TS file in PowerDVD then Shift+PrtSc and paste to image software(Irfanview).

If you try to playback the whole BDMV and snag a screen - not happening.

EDIT: I need to rip some other BDs for some newer screenshots, huh?

Well that's what we talked about on this thread earlier. I did it this afternoon, but after I pasted the screen it won't save in any format. All I get is a black screen.

See obviously you're using the latest version of Power DVD. Mine is like 3 years old. I don't think it has a screen capture function, but I'll look for it nonetheless.

It looks like a camera, or just press the "C" key and it'll make a jpg
