Samsung PN50C450 Question

I recently bought the C450 (50") as a replacement for my aging rear-projection TV but was hesitant that it was only 720p with an optimal res of 1360x768. However, upon popping in Black Hawk Down, the TV reported that it was playing BHD @ 1920x1080 @ 24hz. My satellite receiver only does 720p, but my 360 was also running at 1080p. Is it supposed to play 1080p or am I ruining it by doing so? If not, I think it's quite cool that it can do 1080p.
