Default No Disney 2010 SteelBooks - IronPack™ instead

Quote:
This has really been a year in flux with massive changes on the studios side on their willingness to do Steelbooks, how much of international gets involved and what it takes to make a Steelbook happen. Disney has unfortunately decided corporately against Steelbook this year. I can't even give a real explanation to be honest with you. At some point you get angry and it all sounds like excuses. The best way I can describe it is the U.S. got involved to help push exclusive packaging as well and so we can take advantage of economies of scale. In dong so, senior people became involved with Steelbook that were not before, legal teams threw their four cents in, and next thing you know there is no Steelbook program period. Even with all the success we had last year and the excitement you guys all showed for it we just couldn't make it happen. A massive fail.

To make things worse, what was approved was an Ironpak promotion which had made it's way through all the pipelines so far that once this was presented to us and we knew what was up, we had no room to move. The choice we were given was either we take the Ironpaks or you have nothing for these titles. It was a tough decision but at the end of the day I looked at it from the standpoint that as much as I want these on Steelbook and there are many people on here as well, I'd rather these exist in some sort of collectible packaging than not at all. Let the customer have the decision if they want them or not. So that's where things are at. Disney Canada does realize this is a massive fail and understand we need to get back to Steelbook so those are the discussions that are ongoing now. Again I cannot promise anything but we are working towards Tron 2.

The Ironpaks that are coming out are labelled as Disney Collectible packaging. These are the titles that are coming:

Prince Of Persia - Sep 14th
Beauty & The Beast - Oct 5
Toy Story 1 - October
Toy Story 2 - October
Toy Story 3 - Nov 2
Princess & The Frog - November
Alice in Wonderland - November/December

Well that's absolute crap and will probably put a big dent in my growing steelbook collection/aspirations.

Ironpacks must be significantly cheaper to produce and have less legal hassle in order for it to be chosen over SB is my deduction here. Now the real question is how many people (asides us) will purchase these disney collectibles being IP and give Disney/Paramount the ammo they need to continue doing it going forward. Looks like an inevitable trend to me that they are just giving the crap releases SB treatment to sucker in people that are loyal to the SB brand and give good releases to IP to make more dough.

I get how companies don't care about us and all that goes along with it, but nonetheless i am still disappointed.

My thoughts exactly.

I respect and understand Brana's decision to release these though.

Look at the bright side

Iron Packs are still much better than regular packaging.

P.S. So, are we really going to get TS 1,2,3 movies in steelbooks? Is it confirmed?

It's gonna be interesting - we know how lots of collectors felt about the Harry Potter and Terminator Salvation ones - I'm curious if a lot people will disregard that because it's Disney.

It will be hard to resist, especially once I have one in my hand. I don't own any IronPacks and am reluctant to put any in my collection. I will hold judgment til they come out... It doesn't look though

I am starting to jump from happiness already.

I am so happy I hold off from buying them for so long already.
Will get TS 1,2,3, Princess and frog and all of them day 1.

P.S. Why is Iron Pack so much worse than steelbooks?
I am telling everyone, Ironpacks are more durable, Terminator Salvaion is my only disk that didnt get a any scratches so far.

I actually don't know anything about Iron Paks, as long as they're durable and reasonably priced, I may just start buying them.

Disappointing news. And there will probably be noone in Europe who would try to publish those missing Disney Steelbooks...

I've never seen an IronPak up close, but one must assume it looks better sitting in your movie collection than a plastic case would... I will definitely get it for Beauty and the Beast but most likely pass on the others...

Wonder why they're not doing one for A Christmas Carol...
