If they sell out of their Disney ironpacks, they will continue to Ironpack us until our eyes bleed! We need to take a stand and buy nothing, our protest will be when we leave hundreds on the shelves. If we buy these because "Disney, me buy"

I have ONE Ironpack, and it's a dvd one. This is my personal opinion: THEY SUCK! They feel lighter when compared to a SteelBook, the spines don't match up with SteelBooks, and they are an obvious rip-off to the trademarked SteelBook design. I don't know if these blu-ray ones have a different type hinge now, but from what I've been told, the covers will often mis-align because of the way they are hinged. If they come to Best Buy, which sounds likely from Brana's post, then I might get one just so I can do a hands on comparison. I wish there was some way Scanavo could put a stop to what in my opinion is trademark infringement.
You can call me a SteelBook snob, an Ironpack Hater, or whatever else you like, but I seriously doubt I will be changing my mind on them. I'll reserve my final judgement on them for when and if I get my hands on one of these, but this just blows huge chunks, and Brana is absolutely right, "A massive fail," an EPIC MASSIVE FAIL! Part of the appeal for me with SteelBooks is the way they look together on the shelf, regardless of where they come from. Having mismatching spines with my Disney steelies will not work for me. I already have that with amaray and SteelBooks, but I keep them separate; I don't want to keep my Disney movies separated yet another way. I hate to say it, but if this is where things are headed, then I might just stick to amaray's. I've been collecting SteelBooks for over 3 years now, and I was SO looking forward to expanding my Disney Steelbook Collection. I'm not a die-hard disney collector though, so I don't need these. They will have to really impress me with killer artwork and improved quality from the one I have now. Even then, I don't know if I can do it, have the Ironcrap sitting next to my SteelBooks (again, this is my opinion. If you like them, then I'm happy for you). The main problem is that Disney might see well IP didn't sell and would be reluctant to do any future releases of any short, be it IP or SB. In the end, we get screwed either way.
I'm not happy because well they won't match my SB and they aren't the same thing. That is like trying to sell me a hamburger, calling it a hot dog. Well damn it, I don't want a hamburger, I want my hot dog. Quote:

![]() I have not seen an IP so i can't really say i wont buy it, but if they are "inferior", then they are just making more money out of us... Last edited by Arkitect76; 08-17-2010 at 10:41 PM. |

Uggh! I am at a crossroads here. Since day one I have been very happy sticking to my SteelBook™ only policy. Every Iron Pack was either a movie I didn't care for or had an international SteelBook option.
If I am truly in this for the improved artwork, there should be no issue. But I also want us to get the best available product, and IMO that is SteelBook™. If I cave and purchase then I’m rewarding this decision, which may lead to more Iron Packs. Of course, since Future Shop has already committed to purchasing these from Disney, not buying will really only hurt Future Shop for their decision; on a positive note, that would in turn make them think again about accepting Iron Packs, a lesson I thought they had already learnt. Having said that, I really don’t blame Brana since this is an all or nothing situation and consumer choice was a well intentioned tie breaker. But that brings me to my original point, which is the real reason I collect SteelBooks™ - improved artwork. I also want to continue my Disney collection from last year, so that is my dilemma: reward Future Shop for accepting Iron Packs and risk more in the future, or accept what is available and be happy...I hate to say it, but I'll likely pick the later ![]() Now the question is, if I break my Iron Pack cherry on these Disneys, will I put in an order for Ice Age? ![]() [Show spoiler]

You guys are hilarious.
You would think that the end of the world was near now that Future Shop decided to go with IronPacks rather than SteelBooks. Well, allow me to chime in on my own two cents to say that -- there is not much difference! I have two IronPacks -- TERMINATOR SALVATION, and SHERLOCK HOLMES. Both Future Shop. Both beautiful. Albiet, the TERMINATOR SALVATION was a little less refined. That is, the spine looks to be cut slightly differently from copy to copy so that graphics may not be identical. They appear to have improved them with SHERLOCK HOLMES so far as to say, that the buying majority would not notice the difference between IronPacks and SteelBooks. Yes, there is still inside art. Yes, there are plastic hubs inside. Yes, there are nice smooth rounded edges. The big difference is that an IronPack spine is made of shaped metal, rather than plastic for SteelBooks. Sure, I would have preferred SteelBooks, just for consistency. But I think the majority of us collectors will not mind in the least that they are IronPacks. Side-by-side on a BD shelf, you will not notice the difference unless you are examining for differences. Don't get me wrong. I love my SteelBooks, but IronPacks are vast improvements over MetalPaks and all the other copycat steel cases. In fact, they are the next best thing to SteelBooks. It is like Pepsi and Coke, or Burger King and McDonald's, or Zellers and Walmart. Rejoice in the IronPacks and the fact that we are getting Wave 2 of Disney BDs in IronPacks. Just watch. After these things get released, there will be a total turnabout wave on this forum. Demand will grow for these and maybe someone will want to buy the first IronPack from me (TERMINATOR SALVATION)! ![]() This forum has a funny effect on making people buy more and more, be they SteelBooks, or IronPacks. The next big question is -- what will happen to all of these Disney posts? Will we start a new Forum for IronPacks, or will we just include them in this SteelBook forum? One IronPack thread will not be enough! ![]() Bring 'em on!! |

These are the three IronPacks tha were released by Futureshop last year:
Sherlock Holmes Terminator Salvation Harry Potter 6 Clearly it shows that they don't sell. Well I'm relieved that I never collected any IP and I don't see any reason why I should start now. Thanks for all the seniors execs getting involved. A big birdie to all of them. |
