Default Released Unrated?

I've seen trailers for Hatchet II and I Spit On Your Grave and they both are releasing in theaters in October UNRATED. I didn't think the MPAA would ever allow this...
How old do you have to be to see an unrated film in theaters? I can't find any information on it and it's confusing. Check the websites for each movie, they both say they're being released in theater unrated.

Studios typically cut down on offensive content when the MPAA gives a film a high rating (like NC-17). However, films are not required to be rated at all, but it could hurt box office sales if they aren't. Some theaters don't show unrated films do to potential box office failures, but more popular films have been shown in the past without being rated.

They're playing at AMC theaters. I have one around 20 minutes away from my house.

Do you have to be 17 to see it? Is it like an R rated movie where I could buy tickets and someone under 17 can go too? Or is it like NC-17 where each person must be at least 17?

I believe it is treated like an NC-17 film. And they recently changed policy that NC-17 means No Children 17 and Under. It used to be that you had to be at least 17 to see NC-17 films, but now you have to be at least 18. I don't know the policy for unrated films, though. You should call the theater just to make sure. Are you 17?
