Default Four Rooms (1995)

I know this is a movie that not a lot of people like but I like it and I've met three other people who enjoyed it so I guess you could say it has a small cult following.

Any way, I have only been able to find this in the U.S. on R1 DVD.

It's been released on blu-ray in other countries but I'm wondering if anyone here has had any experience with the different versions and which version I should import.

I'm looking for region A (or all regions) and if it has the original music.

The second pressing of the U.S. R1 DVD has alternate music in some scenes as I think it was a rights issue (isn't it always)?

The version that was on Netflix about a year ago has the (horrible) new music.

First pressing:

Second pressing:

With New Year's Eve approaching, I was getting ready to watch this, as it's a tradition of mine and thought I could do better than a crappy Miramax DVD from 1999.

I'm hoping to get a lead on which import will play in a U.S. player and if it has the original music.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry to say I don't have any answers for your questions, but I do want to point out that VUDU has the digital (UV) version of Four Rooms on sale for $4.99 - this weekend only. It's not quite what you're looking for, but you'll be able to watch it in time for the holiday.

http://www.vudu.com/movies/#!content/13937/Four-Rooms

Edit: It's also on Prime streaming for free, if you have that service.

This film turned Tim Roth into an acting GOD for me! The way he portrays Ted is phenomenal!

Thankfully, I have the first pressing of the DVD. As far as I know, it has all of the original music in tact, but I can't be sure as I've only ever seen this DVD.

Roth was probably the ONLY good thing about this movie. It's on my ten worst films of all time list.

I guess I'm not being very constructive.

I have the Japanese Blu-Ray which obviously works fine on US players. I didn't notice any change in the music. What specific part/song is different and I can check for you.

Have the German release. No possibility to check region and no idea about the music, like above I would need more details to check.

I purchased the Japanese blu from Amazon Japan and it was really inexpensive. Looks and sounds good, not amazing, but better than the DVD. The music has been changed on the blu, I'm not that familiar with it but I remember the Bewitched theme being played during the first chapter (it's also on the soundtrack album) and it is nowhere on the blu. :/

IIRC it's the part in the very beginning of room 2 where Ted is walking to the room with the bucket of ice. The other version also omitted "Sentimental Journey" (The whistling song in the beginning of room 3).

Update:
I checked it out briefly on Amazon Prime and so far the music is all the original tracks. I don't know if it was just a Netflix thing or what but seems as if AZ Prime is the way to go.

I still want this on a BD of course so hopefully the Japanese one has everything intact.

I have this movie on DVD and would upgrade it to blu ray if released. It isn't the greatest movie but I love the final room with Quentin Tarantino. I'm a huge fan of his.

"We want you... to be... the dice man."

I loved the delivery of that whole speech, but that one staccato line in particular always was the highlight for me.

"Sentimental Journey" plays on the Japanese Blu-Ray from around when Banderas says "Behaaaave!" until he brings up the $500 with Roth.

...and it's region A (or region free)?

THANK YOU!

...But my next question is: Where did you get yours?

Japan is Region A so the disc is either A or free.

It was a while back but I believe I got it from the Amazon Japan site.

Wink

I was about to pull the trigger on the Japanese version but then I saw that there's a South Korea version that's region free. I think it's a limited edition too!

Does anyone know if it has the original music as described above?

Should I just buy this one?

EDIT: I went ahead and bought the South Korean version and am awaiting its arrival. Very anxious to see if the original music is included and how good the picture is.

So after ordered the South Korean version on 1/1 and received it today. The packaging looks good and the disc looks pretty damn good! It even had a nice, durable slip with a little bit of holofoil. It even has a few bonus features and the theatrical trailer.

It's definitely an improvement over the R1 DVD. I did notice a lot of pops and some scratches but it makes sense as this is an indie film from the 90s. Still, it looks and sounds good, plays in my US Sony blu ray player and has all of the original music!

I am very pleased with this release and never want to part with it...unless a region A version can come along and blow this one away but I doubt it.

Definitely recommended!

Where did you order this version from? I can't seem to find it anywhere.
