I have a 360 that has been working since june last year. It gets a few hours of playtime every month when some people visit for Gow only, and no issues so far. I had a couple of friends who's launch date 360 died very quickly (back then I don't think they know about the RRoD, but they got replacements anyway).

One got a 2nd replacement after many months (he let everyone know he's on his 3rd), the other one has been working since the replacement (or at least the subject never came up).

Curiously, I seem to be the only one in my circle of friends that has had an xbox360 w/o any glitches. Most people my age don't bother with the gaming consoles, and the only two i know with xbox360 had the glitches above.

Usually most electronics die within a 48 hour burn in period, or they should last a long time. That this RRoD is so prevalent points to some flaw in the board design (my theory) that should be reworked. I don't know if anyone's seen a RRoD on the Elite.

Some people just have no business doing production pcb design and should look for work where they won't do as much damage.

I Think There Are A Few Xbox's Out There That Work No Problem. I have Two Friends That Have Xbox 360. Both From Launch And Only One Of Them Has His Original Xbox My Other Buddy Is On His 3rd Xbox

I Just Think Its Funny That A System That You get Back From M$ And Plug It In And Want To Play Your Games Already. Then To Realize 5 Min Later That The Red Lights Came Knockin That Quick

yup...its a design flaw..the fact that the CEO robbie bach SAID all 11.1 million systems that Microsoft had put through the supply chain were flawed say's alot. the games are for the most part fun..its the hardware that is the problem. with the playstation 3 right now its the software for most of the problems. most of the playstation 3 has what little playstation 3 software that is out is fun but the problem developers are still learning the hardware.

so both systems are haveing problems. though a hardware design flaw in my opinion is the worst out of the two.

I'm thinking about getting the 360, but to only play certain games like Dead or Alive 4. I think TECMO will be re-releasing DOA 4, and will release DOA 5 on the PS3.....I think!

My Elite still works fine, I don't know how these problems happen. This is my second Xbox and I still haven't had any problems yet. (Sold my previous one for the Elite). Both worked fine, can't wait for Halo 3 though comes out in 10 days.

I am still on my launch 360 and have never had a problem...

Its really ashame that the 360 is causing so many issues, because other then being flawed, it has been offering some seriously excellent software...

Enjoy! I if I had a 360, and had played installation 1 and 2, I'd guess I'd be stoked over the 3rd installation, but after playing Halo 1 on the PC, I got over the hype (I got the T-shirt!), but I was p*ssed that MS decided to make the Halo 3 PC variant Vista only ... and I am NOT going to upgrade to Vista to play that game.

i thought i had heard that the 360 malfunction problems were tied into the cooling system not cooling down the motherboard or some type of switch that was getting melted, thus the ring of death. this is from one of my hard core gamer friends that has a 360 and hasn't had any problems with his.

Yes, the entire problem was that they cheaped out on the heatsink on the GPU, and the exteme heat and cooling cycles cracks the solder points and warps the board.

All refurbs going out now have a large heatpiped cooling block on them that's tied into the fan duct. Problem solved

This guy's new system obviously had a defective motherboard.

I never got the 3 rings with my Premium I had for slightly over a year, but it did freeze or get disc read errors pretty much everyday right out of the box. I have an Elite now (and of course a PS3) that doesn't freeze as often, but still much more than a system that cost me over $500 (additional black controller and battery).

hardware issues aside the 360 does have some fun games on it , i like crack down, bioshock , dead rising etc , got a bit of a game back log though so halo 3 will have to wait.

I still have my original 360. Way back when I bought it, I got a fan system for the back. Maybe that's why it's still running after all this time.
