Default Do you say Blu-ray or dvd still?

when talking to casually to aquantiences that may or may not know about blu-ray do you refer to your personal movies as blu-ray or dvds.

kind of hard to explain, so ill give an example

for example im a huge nip/tuck fan. i missed nearly all of season 4, because my gf hated the show and i made her watch 1-3 in order to get what the show was like (she is addicted now, how could you not be). however, to catch up i bought season 4 on blu-ray. now yesterday at work i was talking to a fellow nip/tuck fan at work and was telling her the story of how my girlfirend hated it at first and how i missed the entire season 4 and finally got to catch up once it came out on DVD! i realized i didn't say blu-ray and i would have felt awkward saying blu-ray. am i alone in this or to people you don't know well do you guys still say dvd instead of blu-ray in a situation like this.

or if somebody asks you if you have bought a certain movie on dvd, but you have blu-ray. what do you say, do you say

yes, i got pirates 3 for xmas
no, i don't have it on dvd
no, i don't have it on dvd, but i have it on blu-ray.

I say Blu-ray then explain what that is if they don't know. You've got to spread the faith, right?

I actually think that may be a more effective way of doing it than starting a conversation about it yourself, since it just comes across as a normal thing you're doing instead of a fanboy rant.

Around fellow HD enthusiasts and people who know of Blu-Ray, I generally just say 'BD'.
However, around other people I always use 'Blu-Ray', because if nothing else, I might have someone curious about what the heck I'm talking about and pique their interest

I say, "I have x number of Blu-rays."

'Course, now all my friends and co-workers think I need to get help. Not just that I'm a Blu-ray fanatic but that--to them--I have way too many Blu-rays already--and I don't even tell them anymore how many SDs I have. They don't understand.

I say that I have it on Blu Ray and then lead that into the superior stats if they do not know what it is.

see i do it around people i know well, friends and family, but i tend to get negative reactions out of people. like, "dvd isn't good enough for thomas, he's gotta have blu-ray", reactions which intemidates me to do it in front of aquantiences or strangers.

I say "Yeah, I've got it on Blu-Ray", it's a great way to get people asking about HD Movies. Put it out there and let them ask about it. You're not beating people over the head with it. I find a lot of people are looking for someone who has already made the decision of which format to support.

I say Blu-ray as well. If someone does not know much about the format, I elaborate. But all my friends and family know I'm a Bu-ray fiend! I have a hard time even thinikng about standard dvd's now.

I had been saying BD because I'd seen that abbreviation a lot, but I've mostly stopped doing that. Very few people seem to call them BDs, and I don't think I've ever heard them called that in ads or anything like that.

I think BD may be a handy abbreviation especially for writing but it isn't really intended to be called that name.

Has anyone seen or read (or have a link to) an advertisement that calls it anything other than "Blu-ray Disc"?

I say blu-ray or if I'm not in the mood to explain to someone who is obviously not tech-savvy, like my mom for instance, I'll say "on disk."

The one real advantage of being a relatively early adopter is that I don't have anyone living near me with a Blu-ray player. So, nobody asks to borrow a movie or TV series in Blu. They couldn't play it!

I say Blu-ray to differentiate between blu-ray and dvd... and to make sure everyone knows I'm an HD nerd

What really annoys me is when people call it Blu-ray DVD....

I blu-ray is faster than saying DVD so why mix it up or put them both together?

Right, so just agree with the sentiment that DVD isn't good enough for you, because it's not. Maybe explain (nicely) that VHS was once good enough for the tiny TVs we had back then, then DVD was good enough for the larger TVs, and now Blu-ray Discs are what looks best on today's big HDTVs.

I say "blu" or "blu-ray" as well. Most folks who know me have already gotten the "blu-ray vs DVD" diatribe speech, so they already know what I'm talking about.

I remember reading somewhere that 'BD' was the official acronym for Blu-Ray Disc format, so I think I should be aloud to use it
