Default Blockbuster behind on catalog BD releases...

Forgive me if there is a Blockbuster rant somewhere here.

Today I went to 2 Blockbusters that carry blu-rays and none received "The Day after Tomorrow" which came out today. They did have Fantastic Four 2 though.
It seems like Blockbuster is not keeping pace with old movies that are being released on Blu-ray. Most, if not all, of their old titles have been there for a long time now.

Oh, by the way, Fantastic Four 2 looks awesome!

I purchased that title for the Blockbuster stores I run, I'm sure that doesn't help you though.

The reasoning has more to do with the high cost of this cataloge product and low rental activity. I've noticed the older titles sometimes get no rentals the week it comes out.

With a record number of titles expected this 4th qtr you can't really blame them for just targeting the New Releases on a platform that doesn't exactly produce a lot of revenue.

Interesting, you should have purchased it for the online site. It says 'coming soon' for both FF2 and Day. They had the release date of today for about 2 weeks, then last night changed it to coming soon.....

Just think how expesive it would be to replace every movie you own with its blu-ray equivalent. Now do that over a nation chain. Just because YOU want a title on lbu doesn't mean your blockbust does. Get net-flicks or the mail order blockbuster thing.

My guess is your blockbuster is a Franchise and not Corporate, just like I help run franchise stores.

We do what we want so just because Corporate says it's BluRay exclusive doesn't mean all Blockbusters will follow suite. Just like no late fees (which was the biggest bone headed move ever), a lot of franchises did not remove late fees (after all I think it's 20% of overall rental rev)

Eventually it has to be done. It took a long time for dvd to fully replace vhs. A little bit at a time helps alot in replacing all.

Blockbuster online has it "coming soon" still.

Agreed, but take the most in demand titles first and slowly expand. Once blu gets more accepted, the cross-over will be much more rapid. What is this "VHS" you speak of??? I am unfamiliar.

I think the cost being so high initally is the biggest reason. Next year if BluRay becomes the winner of the bloody war, you could see these titles drop in price and that's when you'll see more catalog titles in stores for rent.

I've been pretty disappointed in BB's high def offerings. I'm about to switch back to NF after giving them a chance for several months. I can understand not stocking all 200+ BR titles immediately but they should at least stock the new releases each week.

Yeah. It's not like "The Day after Tomorrow" is a bad movie. It's probably the 2nd or 3rd most wanted BD title that came out this week (after FF2).

Blockbusters attempt to go blu-ray is about as half a@@ed as it could possible get! They seem to not be having a problem carrying 80 copies of a new releases that will never all be rented out at the same time but yet they seem to not want to carry more then 1 freakin copy per movie for disc that what cost a whole 10 bucks more!

The two in my area have about 30-40 movies all with just one copy each, hell it took me over a month to finally be able to rent and watch 300 because they refuse to carry more then 1 copy and when rented they are out for a week.

Yes. No hddvd, except online.

My blockbusters get rented out quickly of new releases, especially good titles that they would stock over 50 copies of. But only 1-2 copies per BD title which they seemed to order in early summer and I doubt had any new releases of old movies ever since.

Just a little information for you, they have high quantity depth for a lot of titles due to certain deals with studios. Trust me, the upfront cost for those "30-40 movies" are nothing.

Still there is no excuse for not carrying multiple copys of titles, one per is weak no matter what the excuse is!
