It's hard to say.

It's hard to know whether to be excited about new movies sometimes, while old Kurasawa movies or movies like Gladiator, I already know will be in my collection day 1. The number of catalog titles I want dwarfs the number of movies that are in theaters now or coming soon to disc by quite a bit... but that's not really a fair comparison... there's nearly 100 years of catalog titles and only ~6 months worth of new releases to get excited about at any given time.

Catalog titles of course. I am pretty confident that new titles will look terrific so there is not as much anticipation. I want to see classic films revealed to me in a new and exciting way. The other night a friend an I watched the import titles "Black Narcissus" and "The Boys From Brazil." We couldn't shut up about how terrific they looked… far better than we imagined. I am chompin' at the bit to see what magic was done to bring "The Godfather Trilogy" to Blu-ray.

Default might be age related as to the answer

it might really depend on how old you are.

for instance how many movies have you seen.
some movies have great significance in peoples lives the film might be relevant to a world event.

myself i grew up during the 80s films like the breakfast club. planes trains and automobiles. speak to me a lot more than modern releases. thats not to say i
dont enjoy modern cinema.

I know what you mean. When a movie you have seen before is so good looking it is almost like watching it for the first time.

Catalog titles mostly because I know what to expect from the movie. I haven't gone to the theater in a while so the newer releases are blind-buys. Since I don't know how much I'll like them, it sort of tempers my excitement. I do get pretty anxious with some of the new titles that I'm more certain I'll like though (Iron Man, Prince Caspian, etc.).

Catalog titles..... Criterion's releases in particular....

I have so many DVDs that I still watch, and think "man that's gonna be a sweet blu ray" I've gone so far as to create a little spreadsheet of movies I have on DVD that I need to watch for release dates on!!!

I'm an addict

I am torn between the two:

Catalog: there are some that i really want and then there are some i will just pick up when i get a chance. Some catalog titles are too $$ for me to double dip right now. But some are definetly worth the double dip i.e. LOTR/SW/Gladiator/Kill Bill

New Movies: Before this year summer's movies i would say no. But now seeing these movies, i definetly can't wait to see them on BLU.

For me: 50% catalog/ 50% new movies

I agree with the majority of the answers here: catalog titles for me too b/c MOST of the catalog titles (not all) look great and it does appear that it got released recently. The bar's already been set pretty high on all the new releases and there's an expectation that it should look great on blu.

New releases for me. I have seen most of the catalogue movies that I have bought before. The new releases are new to me on my HT. Because of that I am excited to see them again.

Love catalog titles!!!!!!!! I think it is because we are usually gonna get fresh new films on Blu Ray as they are released with standard dvd for the most part... it is waiting for the great older catalog titles that I get excited over!

I am more excited about TDK on BD than any movie that is coming out or could come out, maybe except SW in which case I would be equally excited about. Plus, catalog titles aren't necessarily going to look as good as newer films, but vice-versa. But the thing is with newer films, the source material is fresher and you're more likely to get a better picture. So, I'm saying new titles.
