I'm probably going to be slammed for this, but maybe this is a blessing in disguise. It's better to end before things go the way of The Simpsons, with a slow painful "why won't this die????" kind ofl death. I absolutely love the show, but the newer stuff definitely hasn't been good as the older, and I can only see it going downhill from here. Law of diminishing returns and such.

I got to agree. As much as I love the show and all its characters and jokes, the new batch of episodes just never felt as endearing as the first few seasons. They had funny and intelligent episodes, but overall, it never felt as special as it used to.

Hopefully, they'll give the show a respectable finale. Better that than to have it continue on and gradually grow worse and worse and trail off in the end.

I do wonder if Netflix's ears perked up after hearing this. They're reviving Arrested Development afterall, so I could see them funding Futurama too. It would be pretty huge for them if they did. They got huge subscriber growth from their first major exclusive programming (House of Cards) so I could see them looking for more exclusives down the road.

I agree, they should pick it up. The dive into original programming made up for their stream/dvd snafu a while ago so they should keep at it.

I have to agree with you on this. Personally, I think Futurama is a funny/interesting sci-fi show and I think they have gotten a good run out of it. Not many shows get a second chance at life after being cancelled so that's good. In the case of the Simpsons, I love the show though I do think it has gone on for WAY too long. Haven't seen much of the newer episodes but I have to talked to a few people who have and they have said the same thing you did that the show isn't as funny as it use to be.

I agree with you guys, it's sad that the show is going but it's probably for the best.

I agree. The show had a great run. Multiple seasons, 4 direct-to-video movies. I'm sad that one of my favorite shows is finally ending, but I'd prefer for it to end while the quality is still good, and not continue to go by the motions like The Simpsons and Family Guy.

Hopefully the rumor of the Feature Length Movie turns out to be true.

I don't think we can complain too much honestly. Not many shows that get cancelled get a chance to come back at all. Futurama did so and gave us a few more years. I haven't watched the show as much since it came back on the air on Comedy Central but from what I saw it never seemed to have quite the same charm as it did during the inital run. At least the show isn't being cancelled outright and gets to finish up the current run of episodes it has left.

Before it came back... I would have liked a feature movie... but we had 4 direct-to-video movie-length features... then we have had 2 seasons, and a third one coming up yet-to-air as the final season.

I think that's a lot to get back from a canceled show... and most of these new ones we have gotten on Blu-ray as well.

I'll be sad to see Futurama go... but I'm happy we got a second look and I will not feel like we missed anything.

edit: Oops... I mis-counted... we have had 3 seasons already, and a 4th one coming as the final one soon.

Is there even a rumor about a feature length film? All I've seen are speculative 'what could they do?' posts that discuss the different ways Futurama could stay alive.

Ooh! Will it have smell-o-vision? And will it allow the audiences to pick and choose what happens on screen? Will the hypnotoad be the star?

Well at least The Cleveland Show got canned too. Most of the newer Futurama episodes really turned me off, especially with focusing too much on real science and lame pop-culture joke. I know it worked back in the original run, but the revival felt forced and too serious.

CS has not been officially canceled, the season is still going, but no new episodes have been ordered for next season.

As far as Futurama newer episodes, I liked them, it's just the jokes might be outdated now for the newer generation.
