Default Beware Ebay Sellers/Buyers! Shipping went up... A LOT!

I had no idea that shipping was going up over the weekend...and I just got screwed. I sell a LOT on discogs and ebay AND I invoiced people on Friday and Saturday. Many paid and, when I went to ship today, I was shorted by more than $10-15 total on my shipping.

Apparently international shipping went up a TON.

Anyone else dealing with this now? I wonder how many people from other countries won't purchase from the US any more.

Any idea if this applies to Canada as well? I'm wanting to purchase their Paranorman BR.

Not as far as I know. It would only be USPS.

So that explains why an item I was looking at went from $7.85 shipping to $12.55. The search results still listed $7.85 but when you clicked on the listing it went up to $12.55.

Jerks.

Was there a hike on domestic shipping as well? I don't sell on eBay but would still be curious to know the current rate increases if they apply.

Virtually all USPS rates went up. Here is a summary:

Starting Sunday, the following types are mail are rising in cost by one cent:

• A one-ounce letter sent with a first-class stamp is going from 45 cents to 46 cents.
• Postcard postage will rise from 32 cents to 33 cents.
• One-ounce letters to international destination are rising to $1.10, which is up from 85 cents to send a letter to Canada and Mexico, and $1.05 to other places.

Also, prices for shipping services increased by 2.6 percent, Priority Mail rates rose an average of 6.3 percent and Express Mail prices rose by an average of 5.8 percent.

For example, I sent a package for a little over $9 and the woman told me it would have been about $5.50 before today.

I've just been counting down to this as well...

I buy vinyl records through Discogs and eBay, now most sellers are asking for $8 shipping to ship a 7" and anywhere from $15-20 to ship an LP

I'm going to be doing a lot less buying over the next few months. Unfortunately, a lot of the stuff I'm looking for just cannot be found easily up north.

The previous rates were (about) $4 for 7"s and $8-12 for LPs.

At least delivery confirmation on packages is now free for priority shipments. Have you guys bought your tracking through stamps or Paypal? It's cheaper than at the post office.

I'm from Australia, and I find postage from the States is just totally unrealistic for most (heavy items usually),( I buy something worth 15 dollars and postage is twice what the item is worth) I no longer even look at items from America, I generally go to UK listings,

And yet Amazon can ship very cheaply..... Someone is making a lot of money.....

FedEx and other major shipment companies offer bulk deals to mass shippers. I know some people who ship over 1000 items a month and can get basic tracking for under $3 since the have a bulk rate. For everyone else you are going to be paying a lot more because you are small time.

Amazon has a great deal on shipping services that the average person won't be able to get offered. An honest seller isn't making money off shipping anyway and if they are it is very little, probably going back into material cost.

I've had several buyers on ebay already back out because of the high shipping costs. I feel bad so I'm letting it happen for now. After a week or so, I'm going to make them stick to their bids. Went again to the post office today. Those prices are just insane.

I shipped two blu rays to Canada a few days ago and it cost me $8.50

Which is a hike of almost $3 dollars. Don't know if it was where I sent it, or doesn't matter.

I usually ship to Canada for the same shipping price I ask for US buyers, but if things are going this way, I'm either going to stop shipping internationally or warn that the shipping is gonna be quite a bit more.

You got two for $8.50? I'm shocked. ONE for me is $8.50.

Yeah, shipping costs to Canada is unfeasible now. What used to cost around $2.50 for one blu ray costs $8.50.

It sucks because a very good percentage of blu rays I sell on this forum went to Canada.

USPS totally blows. Their "tracking" is a total joke. I'm expecting a package and they haven't updated the tracking in three days. Whats the point of having it if it's useless?

I'm probably going to have to use the shipping by weight option on ebay, which will make my putting things up on ebay much more difficult. That way, people can figure out for themselves how much it's going to cost for international shipping.

USPS has been in a financial struggle for awhile now but Im not sure how raising their prices is going to solve the problem. Especially at these rates. And I think its a slap in the face now that they have door greeters that try to assist you before you get to a clerk. Should have made this effort a long time ago not now just because your hurting for money and want to do something about it. They also got rid of the vending machines that sell you stamps outside in the lobby. Now I have to stand in line if I want to get stamps if I happen to be there to get something from my PO BOX or doing a drop off. Too little too late.

Their employees are also grumpy as hell, but I guess I shouldnt be surprise, since there is the saying about 'going postal.'
