Default Anybody else think Universal is kind of quiet?

It seemed like last summer Ken Graffeo was out every few weeks touting some new HD DVD accomplishment (like buying toliet paper in a movie). I havn't heard much out of Universal's mouth at all in the past few months. Kind of makes you wonder whats going on with them and HD DVD.

They didn't make on their promise of how many hd dvd movies they were going to put out either......it seems like they are trying to decide to stay or go neutral or switch.

I just hope, at this point, looking at the sales figures comparison between BD and the other format they're supporting, they will decide to at least go format-neutral... Come on, Universal, don't be so darned stubborn! The writing is very much on the wall...

i don't think it would be the death of DUD. IMO we need one of these studios to go exclusive. Now a Exclusive Warner, that would be the death of HD DUD.

If I were them I'd probably just get through yearend with HD-DVD to make sure they have deliver on their commitments. Entering the blu-ray waters during 4Q may be pointless because their catalog titles would just have too much better material to compete against. Come out neutral in 1Q08 and hit the market with their strongest catalog titles so they can get a little of their own buzz as opposed to being lost in the holiday madness. Over 2Q08 release the rest of the ctaalog. Obviously all new movies would be on both formats.

so do you know if there is a commitment they have had to make with a company that shall not be named. to me it seems like that little commmitment they had might be over now and they are just getting ready to get things in place.

I've been saying this for weeks now. Not a peep from Ken Graffeo or Uni in regards to the format war. They are not even making any particular big deal about the Bourne trio which is really odd. The silence is deafening.

Fox was quiet because of the AACs getting cracked. Universal has no beef like that. As we've all suspected they are under a contract and that contract is about or has expired. Thus, the desperate Paramount move.

agreed, however we KNEW fox's issue...and fox was NEVER as vocal as Graffeo and Uni was. To someone casually reading youd have thought Graffeo developed HD DVD and Uni was its largest shareholder with the kind of PR they had.

Thats why its a bit different, imo, than fox.

Or maybe they are getting ready to dump 100+ HD DVD titles just after Thanksgiving in a coordinated (but hush-hush) effort with the release of $200 HD DVD players to build overwhelming momentum for HD DVD just in time for the Holidays....

I personally prefer the Defection to Blu-ray rumors.

I would not read too much into this. Remeber CES last year and how everyone on the red side was up in arms over Uni's non presence? I've said many times the only way Uni will go nuetral is if Graffeo and Kornblau leave or their fired. Those two have to be tamong the most inept executives ever in Hollywood.

i wouldn't say that. we don't know how much Universal was paid. If they would have sold 25 million in blu-ray disc sales and receive 30 million to stay hd dvd excluisve. we really can't call them inept. Especially if their plan all along was to realize blu profits at a latter date. Remember a lot of the BS they have said, they were paid litterly millions to say. you'd probably do the same and your higher ups would be more than glad to take the $.

Perhaps I am ignorant to this or just mistaken but wasn't Universal part of the development team for HD DVD? If that's the case and I hope I am mistaken they are not going to make blu's until HD DVD is out for the count.

I heard ken graffeo hold a position in HD DVD PRG.
and by seeing Universal's HD DVD, it is unlikely they will go neutral. (They kind of associationg their logo with HD DVD, just like what fox/disney did).
like Disney DVD and Disney Blu-ray.
