I though people would like to see the difference between the 807 and the 808 inside. Look at that humongous heatsink in the 808! There are now two fans and the caps look bigger too.

![]() * Ok, here's where I'm confused: The rear panel from the 808 shows 7 HDMI connector jacks (6 In/1 Out). But the interior of the 808 shows 8 HDMI connector jacks! Jack? ![]() EDIT: Well, after some judicious research, here's my best shot: The receiver's interior that you see here in this quote from this post, is indeed the Onkyo TX-NR1008 receiver, and not the TX-NR808. ![]() -> It matches the weight (41 pounds) and more importantly it matches the number of HDMI connector jacks (8, or 6 In/2 Out), from the 1008. And for additional specs: 1. TX-NR1008's Weight = 41 lbs and Power Consumption's rating = 8.8 A 2. TX-NR808's Weight = 40.3 lbs and Power Consumption's rating = 7.5 A 3. TX-NR807's Weight = 39.7 lbs and Power Consumption's rating = 8.1 A 4. TX-SR806's Weight = 37.5 lbs and Power Consumption's rating = 7.8 A 5. TX-SR805's Weight = 50.9 lbs and Power Consumption's rating = 9.5 A Last edited by LordoftheRings; 07-21-2010 at 05:08 AM. Reason: EDIT |

Jack, look at those two fans though, isn't it strange the way they are oriented with nothing above them???
![]() * Anyway, for $500 you got a nice pre/pro, with free amplification for 7 channels. Sooo, what's to complaint really about? ![]() Good stacking of the power amps too. Plenty of HDMI inputs, plus one on the front. Ethernet port too! USB! Man! I remember just 10 years ago, I paid $2,000 for a receiver that has WAYYYYYYYYY much less features than this one!!! And it weighted less too!!! The times they are a-changin'. ![]() Last edited by LordoftheRings; 08-01-2010 at 01:36 AM. Reason:  |

Other than a couple of buyer comments I've yet to see any reviews for this receiver. Where did you find these reviews? From what I've read over on avsforum there is no consensus that this receiver sounds any better than the 808 which is already regarded as being top-notch and a marked improvement over its predecessors.

Well up until yesterday there was one Amazon review, and as far as I can tell there was no mention of sound quality on AVSforum until today and that was also from one user. I'm not saying that there isn't reason to get excited about the 809. It has an impressive spec sheet and a new look, but I think its way too early to say that it sounds considerably better than the 808. There are only two posts from the sources you indicate that state that it sounds better, and one of those was posted today. This is not nearly enough feedback to indicate that it sounds better. I'm not saying that it doesn't, but with so few owners I'd be inclined to withhold judgement.

I am totally impressed with the Onkyo TX-NR809 A/V Receiver with Audyssey MultEQ XT and Audyssey DSX for the exceptional value that it offers!
In my opinion this is the very best value/performance featured receiver in that price range! And it looks super cool! ![]() |

Anyone in here experiencing any of the problems being reported by the masses at Avforums or by Onkyo them self's via a press release? Ive only had my 808 for a month and use it only on weekends but I now have zero confidence in the product and every time I use it I fear it will malfunction.
