Sony will resume its regular role as Tokyo Game Show keynote host with an opening presentation focused on the PlayStation 4.
Although its not clear whether the PlayStation 4 session will be the main, opening keynote of the show, Gematsu reports it will be held on September 19, the first day the event is open to trade and press. Called “The World PlayStation 4 Creates”, the showcase will be presented by SCE president and group CEO Andrew House, senior vice president Masayasu Ito, and Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida. TGS runs September 19 to 22 in Chiba. It’s likely to be the PlayStation 4′s last major Japanese consumer show ahead of release, which is expected at the end of the year. The PS4 will also grace gamescom in August and Eurogamer Expo later in September. http://www.vg247.com/2013/08/04/play...kyo-game-show/ |

I think it would pay dividends for Sony to wait for Microsoft's announcement (likely right before them at Gamescom) before announcing their own date. Since Sony has a very late scheduled time for their press conference, it's likely that Microsoft will have their conference first. |

When it comes to specificity, the key is to let the competitor make the first move. So far it's been working like a charm in Sony's favor.
E3 is one thing, the fact that they chose the late hour showing for Gamescom is quite telling. Of course this is assumption in the case should MS go first. |

![]() It would be bad enough having them 1 day apart, really a retailer would want a week between them at least. The logistics behind these things is crazy. Working in retail myself having done midnight launches it's safe to say that it would be one huge great big clusterfu*k if both launched the same day ![]() |

Staffing probably wouldn't be too bad, but I could only imagine the stocking nightmares of having to sit on dozens, if not hundreds of consoles for while. Theres not a lot of free space in the back of retail stores.

Coming hot off the revelation that Sony plan to release their own VR headset for the PS4 CVG claim that it will be revealed at TGS after it was dropped at the last minute from the Gamescom line up.
Sony to reveal PS4 Virtual Reality headset at TGS Sony is preparing to reveal the final piece of its PS4 hardware strategy at TGS by showcasing a PlayStation-branded virtual reality head-mounted display, CVG has learned. It originally intended to reveal the Sony headset at Gamescom but plans fell through at the eleventh hour. The company is currently weighing up whether the PS4 device should be pitched as a key differentiator for the console or a non-essential add-on. The matter has been slightly complicated, but not derailed, by the growing industry support for Oculus Rift. Sony's device will be a categorical rival to Oculus, and for months there have been rumours suggesting the two companies are seeking a partnership. A games developer familiar with Sony's plans, who wished to remain anonymous, told CVG that Evolution Studios is currently working with the device to simulate a cockpit view on its PS4 title Drive Club. Another developer claimed the virtual reality headset resembles the 3D headset that Sony first revealed in January 2011. The head-mounted display will be available separately, like with the new PlayStation Eye, in order to keep the baseline PS4 price as low as possible. In August, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida suggested to CVG that R&D work on such devices was currently underway. "Y'know, we're Sony, so we have lots of different things and different ideas in R&D," he said. "When it come to researching things, we are doing a lot of things that we can't talk about." Sony intends to showcase over 50 PlayStation titles at the Tokyo Game Show. That includes more than ten PS4 games such as Knack and Capcom's Deep Down, which was recently revealed to be an online title. |
