Default Do you care about special features (bonus features) on Blu-ray?

Do you like/want special features (bonus features) on Blu-ray (making of documentaries, commentaries, and other stuff)?

Edit: This poll isn't about whether you want Profile 2.0-only bonus features, but is about whether you like/want special features like 'making of' documentaries, commentaries, and other special features on Blu-ray (features that will usually be playable all types of player).

I care about the 1.0 and 1.1 special features a lot. The 2.0 special features not at all.

2.0 is horrible IMO.

No need whatsoever for it... not worth the extra bones at all.

I didn't mean Profile 2.0-only features - I meant features that will usually work on all players, like documentaries, commentaries etc.

I do care about them BUT I can deal with subpar special features if the PQ and AQ are top notch.

Okay, to expand on my previous comment. I am all for behind the scenes, making of the action scene, bloopers, deleted scenes, commentaries by actors and directors. These add to my enjoyment of the movie, and I almost always watch them on a movie.

I wouldn't buy a BD with less features than the DVD unless it was CHEAP... With that being said. They need to make 2 models of every BD.

1) $10ish - JUST the movie in all it's glory
2) +$20 - ALL the features and the movie.

As a lover of cinema, I'm all about special features. I'm a big fan of anything that gives insight into the filmmaking process or helps me appreciate the film in a new way.

I'm excited to see what the studios will develop with Bonus View and BD-Live features. I'm always amazed at the vitriol toward Bonus View and BD-Live expressed here. Those are major selling points for the Blu-ray format that can only help adoption and this is blu-ray.com. If there should be cheerleading anywhere for the studios to make full use of those technologies, it should be here.

Dependes on the movie. Like Batman begins. When Goonies, Dark Knight, Iron Man, Incredible Hulk come out then I'll watch them. So for me it's a mix between yes and no.

Only on very specific titles am I interested in certain things like commentary tracks. For the most part, even the BD-Live stuff is gimmicky at best, so far. If / when they ever get to actually useful stuff like downloadable subtitles, IMDB access, etc is where it could get interesting.

I've never been a big fan of special features myself. But I will say that I think that if a movie has had a previous release on DVD with special features, those same features should be included on the BD. ALL of them, not just some. It should be mandatory really.

One example I was disappointed with is Silent Hill.
I actually watched the special features on the DVD, but there's nothing on the BD release If I'm going to double-dip I want at least the same, if not more, then what the DVD had.

In the past I voted no. The only time I'd ever even check the special features was if I had some sort of question about a scene or ending or something like that. So, I'd occasionally check to see if I could find an answer. Things have changed slightly now but it's still a mostly no (I voted yes, but not much). I don't buy a movie for the special features or care all that much if they're excluded but I have been at least going through some of them fairly often in the last few months.

For example...

I didn't use to even look on the disc or back cover to see what was included in the special features. Now that I've started using software to track my collection, I've frequently checked to make sure the profile matches. So, I then at least knew what was being provided and occasionally something caught my eye and I watched it. The other part of that is doing a few user reviews and wanting to be able to comment on the special features as well as include a rating in the software I use to track the movies. So, that got me use to at least going through them (at least partially) and surprisingly, I actually thought some of them were pretty interesting.

Another thing I didn't expect from that was seeing how excited some of the directors, etc. were about the movie and particular scenes. I'm not sure what I expected but it was obvious some of them really love their work. It was also kind of interesting to see how luck can sometimes play a role. Watching a special feature on The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, they talk about a famous scene that people talk about being one of the more artistic (praised/talked about) type shots in the movie and it came out like it did basically just by luck.

In my opinion we need only deleted and altered scenes including alternate ending and a making of documentary. Everything else is useless for me. What we really need is a good menu system of movie (if there are more), audio, subtitle and chapter selection. And when the movie ends the disc must go back to the top menu.

hell yes !

odd how people seem to pass on extras -- for me deleted/extended scenes are essential. (they may have whole sub plots not included in the film ... ) and well done making of's are essential.

Same boat. If it's one of my favorite movies such as Pulp Fiction, Blade Runner or Scarface etc. I'll watch some of the special features, mostly being making of documentaries and interviews. There are some excellent documentaries I have watched a couple of times, one of which is the Valkyrie legacy on the Valkyrie Blu-ray. Excellent documentary.
