Default Overrated Actors Thread

So who else out there thinks certain actors are overrated and over used? The actor that I am getting tired of seeing for some time now is Samuel L Jackson. I loved him in Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown but my turning point was Hondo from S.W.A.T. Then his over the top character in The Spirit and then I lost it when he played Nick Fury. But my friends seem to think he is gods gift to movies lol lol. Another one who manages to weasel his way into movies but is never the star is Orlando Bloom.

Morgan Freeman.

He's good, don't get me wrong. I like him. But he gets such a pass cuz he's a good guy. I mean he really seems like a great guy in real life, but he plays the same character in every movie. You know, the "winking" good guy.

Well, to his credit, Orlando Bloom does have two of the most popular cinematic trilogies on his resume', and he's reprising one of them for "The Hobbit". I'm not a huge fan of any actor in general, but I do like what Sam Jackson has done with Fury, and he was cool in the "Star Wars" prequels, too.

In my honest opinion, I think the vast majority of actors are overrated, in one way or another. The film industry has largely become a contest of popularity and/or shock value, instead of talent and versatility. What really bugs me are those who cry foul over being "underpaid", when they make 50 times (or more) what others take in every year. The 2011 US poverty level was about $22,000, so I highly doubt most entertainers have a moral right to whine about their situation.

Christian Bale for the win. Same lispy, growly, stoneface in every performance. He looks bored in every shot.

Also:
Samuel L. Jackson
Kevin Spacey
Jack Nicholson (early Jack is still great, but he became a caricature from The Shining on.. he became "Jack" in virtually every film)
Emma Stone
Colin Farrell
John Travolta (thankfully he's slowly disappearing again)

Will Smith
Denzel Washington
George Clooney (Unlike Smith I'll still watch his movies)
Sam Jacksion (With what I found out about him The Avengers will be the only movie's I care to see involving him.)

I don't ever hear actors complaining about being underpaid. Anyways, that's capitalism. Take the good with the bad. I feel the same about pro athletes, but apparently that's what the market will bear.

It's all relative. If their name or popularity puts audiences in seats, then they should be paid. Is it a ridiculous amount? Sure. Same with athletes. But as long as people are paying for the entertainment, then the performers deserve to earn what they are worth to the studio hiring them. No reason the studios should make all the money while the actual box office draws get a meager salary.

I felt very much the same way until seeing The Fighter.

There's definitely more substance there than I thought.

I'll go with Samuel L Jackson. There are a lot of one-dimensional stars out there but he definitely get the 'far, far, far too overexposed' tie-breaker.

True, he was different in that. It's too bad he cant bring any of that to the "big" movies he's in though.
