I wish all studios did it like disney. Give people the choice of Vudu, amazon, Google, or iTunes and protect themselves by forcing you through their redemption (to ensure you can't double dip).
I love studios like universal that give both, but I would understand them wanting to protect themselves from double-dipping. That's why all studios should offer choice and go through their redemption- ala Disney. Ok... Off soap box. ![]() |

The Disney Movie Rewards paper code on digital-copy packs unlocks the movie at http://www.digitalcopyplus.com/ , which you can link to Vudu.
Disney decided not to run their own movie-streaming site anymore, and let the big boys handle the hard work. (And yeah, wish Warner would do the same thing, if they're going to force UV on us with every movie.) |

![]() Too many people don't seem to get that a Vudu digital copy is not a UV digital copy. They're two entirely different things. I'd love to see Disney get on board with UV. |

I only use Vudu to access my digital copies. However, when I look in UVVU I see all my vudu purchases through there too... ![]() Maybe it's something I miss because I don't actually end up using any of my digital copies... I just share them with a few others and I hope they use them. (At least they don't want to borrow my discs.) |

Vudu is a player and format for digitally stored films. Vudu supports both the UV DRM and proprietary Vudu DRM. Some films only have the Vudu DRM to prevent/deter copyright theft. Disney has yet to agree to use the UV DRM for protection so you can only enjoy these digital films in Vudu because they only have Vudu's DRM. The same applies to CinemaNow, Target Ticket, and Nook Video... not only do they support the UV DRM but proprietary DRM as well. This is how retailer exclusive bonus digital content is kept within that retailer's digital store. It is also how rentals are protected from copying, renting only gives you access to the digital retailer's DRM. You have to look for the UV logo on redemption forms and on purchase pages to ensure you are not getting the retailer proprietary DRM. |

Well,
That's certainly a mess. It should all be from a single unified format. I'm glad I'm not more interested in it than I am. The only reason I don't sell my DC is because I don't see them as having any value. (even though, they do.) -Brian |

In simple terms UltraViolet is your movie cloud database. It stores and holds all of your UltraViolet movies for you. Vudu, CinemaNow, M-GO, TargetTicket, Flixster (and maybe others) are providers that can access your UltraViolet database and play your movies. These providers also rent and sell movies. There is only one place to store your UV collection, but you have a few options on which provider you want to use to play them. One thing that makes it a mess is Disney halfa$$ing it. They do not give you an UV option, therefore whichever provider you choose you can only use them to playback that movie. Very similar to iTunes digital copies. You are forced to use that service. UltraViolet is much more universal, and just about every steaming device, including Android and iOS, can use a provider to access their collection. UV is not just about DRM, it's about allowing you to watch your content across a variety of services and devices. If you buy a film at vudu that has a UV label, then you can also watch that film at TargetTicket, MGO, Flixster, or CinemaNow. If you redeem a Disney digital copy at vudu, or buy a movie on vudu without the UV label, you can only watch it on vudu. There are many disadvantages to not having the UV label.
Can't use special features at different providers, such as favorites lists, parental controls, and sharing among family/friends. Can't be assured that if you purchase a film from a provider that goes out of business, that you will be able to watch it somewhere else. If all your films are stuck in one ecosystem, such as iTunes, you won't be able to watch your films on devices not supported by iTunes. Which are a lot of devices you can't use. If you like one provider's interface better than the other, you won't be able to use that interface to view any films that aren't UV. |

It might not seem like a mess because you've gotten used to how everything works. But it's a mess.
![]() You have to have at least four accounts now with different services if you want to be able to access anything you might come across (Vudu only, Flixster only, CinemaNow codes, and TargetTicket extras). On top of that, you need to have several studio accounts if you want to gain access to the extended cuts of a few movies. Plus, not every site has access to ever title so not all UV titles transfer everywhere. With each site being different and having its own quirks, it's a ton to become familiar with and keep track of. |

Realistically, I do not believe you need 4 accounts. You need a UltraViolet account, and an account with a provider to redeem your UltraViolet code. I think Flixster can redeem every UV code. Therefore, you would only need two accounts. For me though, I use Vudu to redeem all of my codes. I did however have to create an account recently with Flixster only because Vudu did not get a redemption page for The Friday the 13th Collection. They also waiting on Sony to fix the Breaking Bad Series, and I did redeem that on Flixster as well. I have nearly 400 UV titles in my locker and 99.9% of the UV codes I redeemed have been through Vudu. I do not have an account with each studio, nor would I need one from Target Ticket or CinemaNow. (I will admit that I do have accounts with them, as I wanted to see how their interface was, but I have never redeemed or purchased anything through them) I selected Vudu as my provider of choice since I can play it on my TV. Every film in my UV collection does show up on Vudu. Most, of the confusion or "mess" is due to the studios and competition. The studios are the ones who decide which version the customer gets with the UV code. Unfortunately, in today’s world, too much competition can bring on confusion. Competitors don’t just simply try to offer better service or make their products better, they purchase exclusives or offer bonuses to use their services. This applies to many things in life. To stay in the same boat, examples would be streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime. They make deals with studios to have their content only available to them. Retail stores also do this with blu-ray/DVD purchases by offering a bonus disc, steelbook, toy, shirt, or whatever if you purchase it from their store instead of another. I would love for UV to get better, and I think it will and has so far. I don't know much about all the talk about CFF, so I can't speak on that. I do know that now, with UV, I can actually use my digital copies and watch them on my devices, and share my collection with family and friends. To me, that is pretty cool.
