Its not really a mess.

In simple terms UltraViolet is your movie cloud database. It stores and holds all of your UltraViolet movies for you.

Vudu, CinemaNow, M-GO, TargetTicket, Flixster (and maybe others) are providers that can access your UltraViolet database and play your movies. These providers also rent and sell movies.

There is only one place to store your UV collection, but you have a few options on which provider you want to use to play them.

One thing that makes it a mess is Disney halfa$$ing it. They do not give you an UV option, therefore whichever provider you choose you can only use them to playback that movie. Very similar to iTunes digital copies. You are forced to use that service.

UltraViolet is much more universal, and just about every steaming device, including Android and iOS, can use a provider to access their collection.
