I'm not sure if it's even possible, but I know movies like Shrek the Third on HD DVD have web-enabled content and I'm wondering if BLU could do it (and if any movies are coming with it).
Maybe WE-content isn't required for what I'd like. On Shred the Third, there's a fact download. When you enable it and watch the movie, facts (about 300 total) pop up. IMHO it's a fun feature for your second time through the movie--if you really like the film. I suppose it could just be on the disc. So, anything like this coming? |

If I am not mistaken, pop up fact type things have been available on some releases for a while.
Web enabled content, not sure though I do not see why not. I will say that in I do not know how many years that dvd has had web enabled content I have never once used it and do not see anything that would make me do it in the first place. DO you know why HD has to have web enabled content? Because it is things that they could not fit onto the disk. Blu doesn't have that problem. Do not make me go online to get shit, put it on my damned disk. Sue me, I am lazy. |

Right, I know it's a disc issue for HD DVD. But, it's a great way to let movies "live" on. And I'd love to see BLU releases use it.
I'm slowly becoming more of an extras guy now. Grrr. I never cared until I watched the extra on Sky Captain (how they made the film). It was very interesting. And the fact pops on Shrek (eww, dirty word) is cool. Oh, and by web-enabled, I was talking about doing stuff like this on the player and not having to put the disc in your computer. ![]() |

With the space of Blu, one set of features. Close encounters has three theatrical versions and tons and tons of extras(2 dics), How many hours of extras can one watch anyways? Already Cars and ratatoullie have games/extras that rival the best extras HD DVD has, and not even 1.1. I think the future is good for Blu-ray and its features web-enabled or not. |

It's not so much video, it's fun stuff.
For instance, Shrek (dirty word again) has a Shrek coloring book coming via web content. Okay, yes, I'm not going to color. But my kids will. My point is that with disc content, it's now or never. There's no adding after the fact. The web-enabled feature allows studios to do more and to evolve. I'm just wondering about the "option" to do it and not trying to discuss what format is better or this or that. If nothing else, it could be a way to allow studios to fix or add to extra items on the disc. |

Profile 2.0 players should have this feature, but then again, the Ethernet port is not a mandatory option, so it will be up to the manufacture to have this feature needed to take advantage. |

Instead of people complaining/asking about web-enabled content, I'd like to see more suggestions for what exactly you want to use it for. The studios are certainly not going to bother using it unless they see a use-case that would fit.

Well, here's a fun fact about Shrek the Third on HD DVD that I saw.
So the movie was playing with the Shrek facts pops thing (web-enabled download content). Part way through the movie it shut off and the screen said something about not having a license to play. Well gee, that sucks. ![]() |
