What is the difference between DTS-HD and DTS-HD Master Audio?
Which one is better?

it is the same thing. it is a lossless compression format, like dolby truehd, and so we can't say that its better or worse than any other lossless format. its same as uncompressed (PCM) just takes up less space.

it just depends on your "street talk". For example, when people talk about Dolby Digital, "Tom" will say, "it's Dolby Digital"...."Dick" will say "it's in Dolby"......and "Harry" will say "it's Dolby 5.1". Same thing, different expressions. Depends on which Tom, Dick and Harry you converse with.

ANYWAY......DTS-HD's full name is:

DTS HD Lossless Master Audio. This, verbatim, is a trademark of DTS.

DTS-HD and DTS-HD Master Audio are not the same thing. DTS-HD is a lossy codec, where as DTS-HD Master Audio is a lossless codec like Dolby TruHD.

The Lionsgate titles that just came out are using DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, while the Fox titles that are coming out are using DTS-HD Master Audio which is lossless.

That's beacuse blu-ray has a capability for a higher maximum bitrate.

Also... I think I read somewhere that it may have something to do with the fact that HD-DVD is based off of DVD and some of the bandwidth issues and such are still prevalent. I know Dolby had to tricky things with DD+.

It all has to do with the bandwidth that is supported by the disc and currently blu-ray supports higher bandwidths because of the fact that much of HD DVD is still legacy and so there isn't as much new technology which supports the higher bandwidths. This is a major reason that i support blu-ray over HD DVD because it supports higher bandwidth so that just as much information can be given to the audio as the video.
