Default Is this a bad Christmas gift?

I was thinking of getting my younger brother the Harry Potter Blu-Ray set for Christmas but here is the situation. I live with him, he doesn't have a HDTV or Blu-ray player but I do, he loves Harry Potter, and I have never watched the movies or even been into Harry Potter but I wouldn't mind watching them on Blu-ray. Now does this sound selfish??

LOL I agree with pedigree. You have to think that he's going to want to watch them whenever he wants to. Would you be willing to be ok with that? I wouldn't, lol. But then again I am a selfish bastard

On the other hand, when he leaves, he'll have to get bd player to watch the movies. What better way to convert someone than to force them into? LOL

Yeah sure I don't care when he wants to watch them I am very open with my setup. And he doesn't own the dvds. He can do whatever he wants with them I just thought he would want to experience the movies he loves in the best possible way.

definitely bad idea. sorry, don't want to ruin your happiness, but what is the point of buying it if you can't watch the movie. That said, it is a good idea though, if you/your brother have a plan to buy BD player.

How 'bout getting him a BD player instead? He can buy the movie himself

*Sighs*

But he CAN watch the movies. We live together and he is always using my setup anyway to play his 360 games so he could watch them whenever he wants.

And BD player? I only have 100 to spend not 400 lol.

lol this is so confusing... and its kinda different cuz i think i remember you saying that you werent much into gaming but more into blu rays... he was more into the games.... maybe you should steer this entire gift idea in another direction... get him a gift card or something... or cash... when i was 17 i wanted cash... that cool hundy in his palm will be a lot more appreciated than harry potter

Does he ever buy or rent movies? If he were to buy a movie, is he the type that he'd buy it on blu because

1) he knows he can use your setup

and

2) he thinks he'll have a player of his own eventually?

Nah hes not really a movie buyer. He has been into games lately. But I know he would like the Harry Potter movies and I figure why not get them in the best way?

oh, okay..... so you allow the acces of HDTV and BD player? just like my brother and me were several years ago. Bought him a VCD (generation before DVD in asia), although he did not have VCD player, but I let him use mine, but he keep the VCD.

No, it's not selfish.

Can your parents afford a Blu-ray player? If so, you buy him the HP Blu-rays, and your parents can surprise him with a PS3 (or some other BD player)!

If your buying to watch them together as family thing it's ok, but if your buying it for "him" and it's really for you, NICE TRY but no way lol

Nooooooo...lol. I can't say it enough I am not even interested in owning them. I would watch them but other than that they are his. I put in an order on the WB site for them but then I started reading posts from everyone about how horrible their shipping is so I sent in a request to cancel the order and haven't heard back yet.
