Default Boycott the UK version of Blade Runner

Buy the US version instead. Once again UK customers are being shafted with the release of Blade Runner. The UK version costs around £18 and for that you get 2 discs and 1 version of the film (the final cut) and extras. In the US for around $28 (on Amazon anyway) you get a 5 disc version with 5 versions of the film with extras. Add postage to that for UK customers and that comes to around $34 and at current exchange rates that's roughly £17! So less money and a lot more value. You might argue that you don't need that many versions of the same film, but if you can get them for less money than you'd pay in the UK anyway why the hell not. Even if you only watch them once and even if the other versions of the film are only in SD it's better value. For such a sci-fi classic you should get the best version available.

The website bluray.liesinc.net says the US version will play on region B players and as most Warner films are region free as far as I know my fellow UK residents would be foolish not to get the US version.

I agree, it's ridiculous we only get the 2 disc version. I'm going to rent it instead and wait for the proper version to be released in the UK.

I've pre-ordered it from the US. It should be of a low enough value not to incur import charges (fingers crossed).

No doubt the 5-discer will turn up in the UK in 2008/2009 in an attempt to fleece the UK customer a little bit more

I've had mine on pre-order with amazon.com for months... I am greatly looking forward to it. Having all 5 versions of the film will be fantastic. However I do think that I'll probably only be rewatching the latest version on anything approaching a regular basis as I'm sure Sir RS will have done a fine job on it.

They have probably only released the 2 disc version in the UK to be competetive on price. Mistake IMO.

Atleast you guys in The UK already have all The Harry Potter films on Blu-Ray. It wont be out here in the US untill Dec 11.
That does suck that Warner did that to the UK version of Blade Runner.

Sorry for the Rant be fore hand, But.

The UK version of the Harry Potter films are selling in HMV stores for 25 pounds (~$50 each) where as the box set for the films in the US is $119 total (£60) . That is a saving of $131 (£65) dollars in the US. It is even slightly cheaper in the US to buy them seperately in the US from certain websites.

Even thought we got it first, there is no box set here , and they are getting every penny they can get, this is rip off Britain.

That is why I buy from the US.

From the US? Reason i am asking is that are not all Fox titles region coded? I did notice Amazon said it was all regions but do not trust amazon for region coding information.

I agree. I would be very dubious about ordering Fox titles from a different region as they tend to region lock their titles. Look on bluray.liesinc.net they have a pretty comprehensive list of what is and what isn't playable.

The Simpson's Movie is only £14.99 on amazon.co.uk which is the cheapest I've seen in the UK.

I don't live in the US, I don't even live in the UK.

I live in the Adriatic, which is pretty bloody far away from the main battlefields in this format war. But once I decided to join in, I chose to support Region A Blu-ray (because of the slimmer cases, and lack of the BBFC meddling, among other things) primarily because of the current Dollar/Euro ratio. It meant more hassle in acquiring the necessary gear up front, but it also makes for a smoother sailing later on. What with the Amazon BOGOs and other promotions, I end up paying around $20 per shipped disc on average, versus $50 it would cost me to buy them in stores.

I'm sure many more people are well aware of the Dollar/Pound ratio in the UK, and import whatever they can from the US. There's nothing particularly wrong with it. It's not helping to increase the volume of Blu-rays moved on this side of the pond, though, so the local prices will likely stay high for a while yet.

Anyway -- Bullseye, how come you haven't gotten your CE3K? My Amazon preorder arrived two weeks ago.
