Attorney Bryan Stevenson takes the case of Walter McMillian, a man imprisoned for murder, despite having evidence to prove otherwise. This is a biographical drama.

Directed and co-written by Destin Daniel Cretton (12 Short Term, The Glass Castle, and the upcoming Marvel movie, Shang-Chi)

Starring Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Foxx, Brie Larson (her third time working with the director), O'Shea Jackson Jr., and Tim Blake Nelson.

Rated PG-13 for thematic content, including racial epithets.

In theaters January 17th, 2020.

That's MLK Jr Day Weekend. I bet it opens limited in December for Oscar consideration / word of mouth like Hidden Figures.

Well, the cast is excellent, and I liked both of the director's films I've seen (the two Brie Larson ones). Story sounds good, as well.

Everything is pointing in the right direction for me, so far.

It's anything but.

The script is phenomenal and I hope it gets all the recognition it deserves.

Exactly. "Not a prequel, a sequel, or based on a comic book," describes something like 99% of each year's new films.

I'm interested. Short Term 12 is a phenomenal film and The Glass Castle was actually really good too. I thought that one was even better the second time I watched it. I think it's worth a watch for those on the fence. It's definitely not Short Term 12 great though.

The complainers only like the prequel/sequels. What they want is a surprise IP blockbuster, not just an original.

Bang on, so frustrating when so many mid tier, great genre films come out and none of these chronic complainers do anything to support them. As Astra will be the next example of this.
