Default Marantz AV 8802

Page was originally in French. The link I posted is via Google Translate. Highlights/ differences between AV8801 are basically HDMI 2.0, Bluestooth, Wifi, Airplay connectivity. Dolby Atmos via firmware upgrade. Expected around Nov-Dec 2014.

There is a thread over at AVS http://www.avsforum.com/forum/90-rec...h-details.html

I'm really interested in Dolby Atmos but will wait to see how it develops. Other than that I don't really see a need for me to upgrade. What are your plans?

In short I don't have any. There is no Dolby Atmos Content, Nor are there any HDMI 2.0 consumer players available. Plus I'm not sure how Atmos will work in conjunction with Audyssey.

If it does not mesh seamlessly then one has to wonder if it would be possible to possible to upgrade via firmware.

Far from an expert on how Dolby Atmos would/ should be implemented in conjunction with Audyssey. Just tossing my .2cents in there.

I'm all for embracing new technology etc but I will have to wait ans see how this develops and implemented across consumer A/V

Long answer. I'm more than happy with my AV8801. Admittedly, I am still interested in the EMO XMC-1!!!

Dolby labs has a Q&A site stating that as long as your old player picks up a bitstream and transmits it via HDMI Atmos will work:

http://blog.dolby.com/2014/06/dolby-...ions-answered/

Titles are quite a few already, scroll down here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolby_Atmos

You will need 4 extra ceiling speakers, which in a dedicated basement HT are breeze, unless you will need to shell out 4k to match the 7.1 Paradigm Signature setup or similar.

Keeping in tune with topic, of particular interest for those who process audio in reference players are the discrete HDAMs ie mini-preamplifiers for each channel on the AV8801 which I suspect will follow in the AV8802, worth upgrading from my PR-SC5509 given Stereophile's Kal Rubinson and others experiences. I am holding out for a second hand AV8802 next summer as these machines are like cars, depreciation is huge. I would really like to see affordable 4K laser projectors, and nationwide FIOS to accommodate the megadata streaming involved with these movies...dream on baby

Regards

I'm downloading it now.

Hello everyone,

New owner here. I've had it for about a month and have been enjoying it. Upgraded from a Pioneer Elite SC-65 as preamp. I've tested some media and did noTice audible differences between MCACC and Audessey. My 45 days are almost up but I've already decided to keep will be updating my gallery pics in the next months.

5.2 Current Setup to be 5.2.4:

Amp: Emotiva XPA-5 , Emotiva BasXA-700 (Preordered)
Source Player: Oppo BDP-103d
Fronts / Surrounds: Sonus Faber Venere 2.0
Center: Sonus Faber Venere Center
Subs: Dual SVS SB-2000
Top Heights: still deciding. Have a pair of Definitive Technology PM1000 as rear heights right now. May just get another pair for the front and use for Atmos. Anyone have other suggestions?

Well, I'm 5.2.2 right now. K have my rear heights up. Waiting on my front heights to deliver next week. Set speaker configuration to 11.1. Tried TMNT with Auro 2d Surround and loved it. Tried it also with Dolby Surround and didn't have as much impact but still good. Will listen more tomorrow. I'm really happy I upgraded! There IS a difference.

5.2.4 now... and loving it. It's like the Darbee processor... you miss it when it's gone. I now listen to EVERYTHING in immerse audio. Music sounds awesome with Auro3d. Hands down the best one for music. Favorite movie sound experience so far has been DTS:X. (Upmixers are factored into my convictions.) For cable programing it is Auro3d. I feel it gives a little more thump or body to the sound. Got demo disc from Auro and wow! The tractor, helicopter flyover, and Amsterdam demos blew me away! Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol was a new movie. I was back on the edge of my seat.

The Internet radio is awesome. Easy to navigate to and sounds great! Bluetooth works and built-in wifi are big pluses. I terminals are strong and represents the build quality of the pro. I do believe I'll have this for a while.

Current setup: 5.2.4
Oppo BDP-103D
Marantz AV8802A
Emotiva XPA-5 Gen2(Fronts/Surrounds)
Emotiva BasX A500 (Front/Rear Heights):
Fronts/Surrounds: Sonus Faber Venere 2.0 Bookshelf
Center: Sonus Faber Venere Center
Heights: Definitive Technology ProMonitor 1000 Bookshelf
Subs: SVS SB-2000

Months later and I'm still a fanboy. Some things have changed though:

- Internet Radio has no further progress. I rarely, if ever, listen to this anymore.
- I bluetooth my Apple music from my LG V20 phone and really appreciate the audio quality coming from my system.
- Immersive Audio Preferred Codecs:
- For Cable TV Programming: Dolby Surround. The wireless transmitter uses a Dolby surround codec and Dolby Surround sounds much better.
- For Bluray: Whatever the source codec is, with its own upmixer. I have tried bitstream of DTS 5.1 content upmised with Auromatic and it sounds good there as well. That is only a matter of what mood you're in.
- For music: Auromatic is still the best, however, I still listen in 2-ch mode.

Thought I'd share my thoughts on this pro if anyone was still on the fence. Still no major issues with mine. Loving it and should have for another 2 years minimum.

I wonder if it's possible that the 7702MKii will also get a DV upgrade. I think they both were released the same "model year" and if not, when i do get a DV able TV, I can always plug one of the hdmi's from my UHD player directly into the tv. I'd also be just as happy if they could do a DV pass-through with the 7702MKii.

Good move by Marantz. Those kind of actions build loyalty to a brand.

I recently got my 8802a out of storage and hooked it up to my 7.2.4 setup using the 11.1 settings.

Does anyone's click every time it switches audio sources from 7.1 to 11.1?
