Enjoying it a lot more than the first season. It's not subtle at all and already, only two episodes in, I am glued. A purchase for me, next year

Loving this at the moment & was shocked to see Adam Levine. Guess he won't be making any moves like Jagger anymore with that dodgy arm!

I won't buy the release next year though maybe in a few years time.

While I really enjoyed the first season, I LOVED this season. The aesthetics and atmosphere were perfect, as was the majority of the characters and story lines. Will be a first day purchase for me - can't wait till October!

They had to cut Season 1 in the UK as the offending section discussed how to commit suicide, by I believe wrist slashing. It is illegal to include this on home formats in the UK as worried someone will copy. What is rubbish is they can show on TV uncut with no restriction it is just illegal to show uncut on film, DVD/BD and Netflix type streaming.

There's nothing to cut in season 2 (and as malcy30 says, season 1 had the audio "potentially harmful dialogue" trim because it's illegal to pass it as per the Video Recordings Act).

i am glad to hear that season 2 would likely be uncut
but why even cut season 1 when its already got a restricted age rating of 18 years old

how does the scene play out in the cut version is there just silence even when he moves his lips?

Really warped show. I watched the first season thinking it was an exercise in excess, and not knowing whether I liked it or not. The 2nd season was definitely an improvement, though. Tighter plotting and a very conscious effort to cram in every single horror trope ever devised. Weird but strangely compelling.

No, the scene is edited. The part where he stands at the door and says cut vertically is missing, it just cuts to him saying you should try locking the door.

It's as Sithlord says the cut vertically which is the problem as you are more likely to die that ways, hence illegal to say or depict it. They don't want people who are suicidally minded to copy !!!! Most people in real life and on film cut horizontally across the wrist which is easier to staunch the bleeding and you are less likely to die.

It is a criminal offence to show on film and DVD in the UK as those are legislated here, TV is not in the same way so can show it Stupid difference but how the law works in the UK. A classic example of this is the mouse dunking in liquid scene from The Abyss. No on film and DVD but C4 can show on TV.

The BBFC only ban stuff that beaches the obscene publications act (or some other animal law I can't remember the name of). If a film or TV show breaches the obscene publications act, it's somewhat likely to breach Ofcom guidelines anyway.

However, the BBFC are legally required to watch everything whereas Ofcom only respond to complaints. (I think it's a minimum of 10 normally). AHS aired on a fairly small 'cable' channel with little promotion, so wasn't ever likely to be investigated by Ofcom over content. Also, the BBFC consider the potential to replay and take scenes of context, which you don't really have from a traditional broadcast, so therefore isn't something Ofcom consider.

Similar remarks about suicide are what pushed House of Cards (2013) from a 15 to 18. Despite Ireland's IFCO giving every episode an 15.

Just to correct that comment, if I may. Ofcom will investigate any complaint, whether they receive 1, 10, or 1000. However, most complaints are often found to be irrelevant and unwarranted. But there have been plenty of times when Ofcom has upheld a complaint, from just one person.

Also, Ofcom does its own internal reviewing of TV channels. So if an Ofcom reviewer sees something broadcast that might breach UK Broadcasting rules, then an investigation can be trigggered that way too.

Lastly, FX or Fox as it's now known, is no longer seen as a "small cable channel". In fact, it's one of the biggest ones operating in the UK, in terms of the number of viewers who watch it each day. And Ofcom keeps regular tabs on what it shows, specifically because it often shows darker, more adult and edgier dramas than most other UK broadcasting channels!

It's more likely to be complained about if it's being watched a large audience, which AHS wasn't really. And it's called American Horror Story, nobody with weak sensibilities was likely to be watching a show with that title anyway...

I was confusing Ofcom with the BBC Trust. Chris Moyles' producer said on air that as long as less than 10 people complain the BBC Trust didn't care and they could get away with what controversial thing he'd said the day before.

And FOX is a big cable channel in the UK, but it's still not up their with other cable channels (0.3% viewership, compared to Sky1's 1.0%)

And I don't think Ofcom publicly specify that it pays specific attention to certain channels, (and I doubt they'd physically do it either) cos if it they got caught they'd probably be dragged into the ECHR. And knowing the ECHR they'd lose...

This is massively off track now, so I won't comment further.

I was wondering why on earth that show was rated 18.
