Default My head is about to explode.....

Ok I am new to this. Looking for a BD player. Overloaded from reading a bunch of reviews online and still can't figure it out. Maybe you can help. I have a Denon 4306. It won't decode the new audio formats on the BD. So do I need a player with the decoder already onboard?? Which player has the quickest load time? Do any of them resume the movie in the same place after stopping it?? Which one will play the most disc formats?? I would like MP3 capability and do have a few DVD audio discs. Trying to avoiid having to keep the old DVD player just for that.

Sony PS3
Sony Stand alones
Samsung
Samsung Duo
Panasonic
Sharp

Also look at the Panasonic DMP-DB10A. It is one of the faster (perhaps fastest, though there are newer players (coming) out so who knows) players with internal decoding (except it won't do full-blown DTS HD-MA). It is very stable. And it will play DVD-Audios, CDs, MP3s. (No SACDs.)

PS3 will decode Dobly True HD now. DTS-MA is expected with a FW update in the future .. but not 100% confirmed it will or when.
These will require HDMI on you receiver.

1. PS3 resume currently does not survive power off and on.
2. Some titles allow bookmarking to pick up where you left off. Believe SM3 has this..someone else can chime in here if I'm off base on that as I haven't used it myself.
3. It will resume during the same session I believe if you have the PS3 set to auto-start when discs are inserted..again someone chime in as resume isn't something I use.

PS3 .. with fully licensed and certified DivX support coming very soon.

PS3 gives you most flexibility here...

PS3 20,60 and 80GB models support SACD not DVD-A...however the PS3 will upscale your CD's from 44.1 to 88.2 and 176.4 if your receiver can handle it.The 40GB model does not support SACD.

PS3 ... PS3 ... PS3 ... PS3 ... and the PS3.

All of the systems that I mentioned above will do the job you ask of them. And on top of that, you will get so much more added value from its internet connectivity features (PS Store for trailers/demos/etc, Internet Browser on the big screen, wireless Networking to stream your music/video/picture content from computers on your existing network without having to transfer data, and so much more).

Since you don't have a receiver to decode the higher codecs, I say for now a PS3, I think there was one player coming some time in January that is supposed to decode DTS-MA internally. And like others have said, possibly the PS3 might do it soon.

Ok sounds like PS3 is the way to go. I don't have an ethernet connection near all of my gear. Does the PS3 have wireless capability to connect to the internet????
