Arrow Harry Potter to go head to head with The Avengers!

Who's gonna win or who will blink first and move their release date?

Quote:
Warner Bros has announced released dates for some of the biggest upcoming projects, including several DC Comics' properties and one that seems particularly strange.

The studio has set "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II," the last film in the franchise to go head-to-head against Marvel's biggest film "The Avengers" on July 15th, 2011. I find it hard to believe that both of these enormous blockbusters will hit theaters at exactly the same time, especially when both films will be competing for some of each other's audiences.

Below are the release dates for Warners' films:

* Sherlock Holmes (December 25th, 2009): Guy Ritchie-directed film, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law.

* Clash of the Titans (March 26th, 2010): Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk) to direct, Sam Worthington to star.

* Inception (July 16th, 2010): The sci-fi epic that Christopher Nolan will direct before he begins work on "The Dark Knight" sequel.

* Jonah Hex (August 6th, 2010): The DC Comics' western to star Josh Brolin and to be directed by Jimmy Hayward (Horton Hears a Who!).

* Sucker Punch (October 8th, 2010): Thriller directed by Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) and described as Alice in Wonderland with machine guns.

* Green Lantern (December 17th, 2010): Film based on DC Comics' superhero, to be directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale).

* Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows II (July 15th, 2011): Last installment in the franchise. Will hit theaters eight months after the first "Deathly Hallows" part.

Itll be changed as we get closer. WB would be moronic to do this. I mean, The Avengers will likely rock the box office in the way that TDK did, if not harder

I'm more interested in Deathly Hallows than the Avengers... But movies based off of comics are doing really, really well now.

I hope they (Warner and Marvel) adjust the schedule. I'm looking forward to both Harry Potter and the Avengers. There is an audience base for both movies, it would be ashame if they keep the schedule as is because they would eat into each others business.

Looking at Warner's schedule, there are several movies that are interesting. It would be a good couple of years if other studios also have good slates of movies in their lineups as well.

Very interesting. WB just announced the date for Deathly Hallows second part recently and that was already a date change for it as WB moved it back months. It was supposed to come out that May. Wonder if they will change it again now.

I want to see both of these. I'm a huuuuge Potter fan so I can't wait to see that and I'm already pissed they moved it back months so they better not push it back farther. If anything move it up.

Harry Potter will switch, I think The Avengers has more hype around it and fans are becoming more and more disappointed in the Harry Potter films. (I heard that is why they delayed the sixth one)

Anyways, Can't wait for The Avengers to hit

i think if the other Marvel movies slated to be released before The Avengers do really well, and the right kind of seeds are placed leading up to The Avengers, it would be one of the biggest/busiest weekends in box office history.

Harry Potter fans will see Harry Potter w/o a doubt b/c it'll be the last one released. Comic fans will see The Avengers. but people like me may consider taking a whole saturday and spending it at the theater so i could see both.

I agree that one of the movies will change there release date, but right now sumeer 2011 looks like it's going to be filled with blockbusters. In addition to Potter and Avengers, there should be Spiderman IV, Batman 3, Cars 2, Kung Fu Panda 2, and possibly Captain America. Of course it's possible that some of these films get moved out of the summer, but still it looks like summer 2007 when there was a new blockbuster every week.

Both studios want the date, but only one will have it. There is no way that both movies will street on the same date. Marvel will move the Avengers...WB has more resource$ behind it.

I would expect one of them to move to July 1. So far Spiderman is expected to take Memorial Day weekend but that is the only weekend claimed other than July 15.

I disagree with that. The Avengers will come nowhere near The Dark Knight's success. Don't get me wrong the movie will make some money, but I rather see the final chapter in Harry Potter, plus by that time I think Superhero genre may have over done itself.

First of all, they delayed the sixth one because they didn't have a summer tent pole due to all the delays because of the writer's strike and getting deals with the actor's and director's guilds.

I would bet Avengers is moved before Harry Potter, because Potter's audience is global. The Avengers will have to build an audience for the film It's not a guaranteed billion-dollar success.

The last HP movie ever.

Hmm, Marvel and Paramount should probably change their date for Avengers. Harry potter is a proven billion dollar franchise, especially the last one ever!

IMDB and Dark Horizons both list the next Batman film as 2011. From Dark Horizons article on Inception:
"The move pushes back potential filming on a third Batman film, but it seems likely that it will follow the pattern of the franchise so far with the next entry likely to film in 2010 for release Summer 2011."

Nolan filmed The Prestige in between Batman Begins and Dark Knight and still released Dark Knight 3 years after Batman Begins, so he is capable of doing 2 movies in 3 years. I am not saying it is certain that the next Batman comes in 2011, as it's complete speculation at this point. Also, it is Batman 3 in this Batman series. If you are counting the old series it would actually be Batman 8, because the first live action Batman movie came out in 1966.

You can't fight the legions of the Potter Clan. Marvel would be smart to move the movie and not suffer coming in second place with what is supposed to be a major blockbuster.

Indeed, 2 year gap is usually what they have in between, builds hype and tension, but you don't get the feeling that the series is being over done.
