Synopsis

Her terror is intensified by mysterious calls from an old college rival and a friend of her father. With time running out, Leona pieces evidence together that leads her to suspect that it is her husband (Lancaster) who wants her murdered. I was hoping this would come from Kino, oh well. Hopefully this one comes with a new scan. I have the Imprint edition, but it looks like dog shite and could really be improved in every way possible.

Yeah, it’s pretty disappointing both on an A/V level as well as from a price standpoint that this is coming from Shout. Hopefully they do a good job though. I too thought it would come from Kino— but Shout also snatched CRISS CROSS which felt like a Kino title too.

Yes, I feel Shout is a hit or miss label (though, from my perspective they have more hits than misses), but their price point always seems high to me. For their single releases, they have decent supplements but nothing that warrants their high prices, imho. I was hoping for Kino to do this, too. At least I know I could always get it for $10 on one of their sales.

Oh well. Time will tell on the PQ and how low it will go.

This needed to be in the Paramount Presents line, actually. Sigh. Shout is a gamble. They didn't even make this a Select title.

EDIT: If this is a halfway decent upgrade (The Imprint was not) then I can get rid of my ancient DVD, and that's the last Paramount DVD gone from my collection. Fingers crossed.

well, look what PP did with Catch a Thief. So no guarantee of a great transfer from them, either.

I personally found Stanwyck's character highly annoying in this. I kept hoping she would quickly die and end the misery. MY misery.

On one hand, I’m glad this is finally coming out in the US. It’s one of the last big Paramount titles I had been waiting for. On the other hand, I’ll join everyone else in assuming this was coming from Kino. The fact that it’s a standard release will probably mean it’s going to be cheaper than their Select titles, but I’m worried it’s going to be the same absolutely ancient transfer as the Imprint. As for bonus features, hopefully it has at least the original radio show with Agnes Morehead (ideally the first broadcast).

The master used for the HD streaming version is not new but it's much better than what Imprint got. Hopefully it's that master at the very least.

I think there’s a good chance that it is a newer master, because a lot of Imprint Paramount releases with old scans have been released in the US with newer ones.

They haven't announced the specs and features yet, so it could go either way. It's common for them to announce it's a new master just a month before release date.

So excited this is finally arriving stateside. Surprised it isn’t Kino, but whatever. You snooze, you lose! I have high hopes for the master and the encode, leaning more toward the optimistic side of things. Can’t be any worse than the Imprint.

I doubt Kino snoozed on this title. I'm sure they'd have loved to have it, but Shout either got to it first, or offered more money for the license.

I just hope it wasn't because Kino looked at the master and said "ugh, no thanks!" Unlike some other companies, they actually do this and will refuse to release a film in BD if it is not up to their standards. (I know Eureka also does the same)

I don’t believe there’s any other possibility than that or a new transfer. The Imprint actually is that same transfer, the compression on it is just that horrific.
