James Bond "From Russia with Love"

I'm very new to blu-ray. Just signed up for Blockbuster 3 movie plan and have a panasonic 55k player on the way. My first shipment of movies came today, one of which being "From Russia with Love." The movie sleeve from BB says blu-ray but the actual disc itself does not say blu-ray on it anywhere. How do I tell if this is actually a blu-ray or they accidentially sent me a DVD?

hold it up to light or a window. If you can see through it it's a BD

You can see through DVDs just fine if the artwork doesn't completely cover it also. The best way to test if a disc is blu-ray: Put it in a DVD player. If it doesn't play, it's (probably) blu-ray.

There's no cover, it's just the disc in a white blockbuster envelope. This disc has a brown background and says " From Russia with Love special edition"

Don't know which country you're in, but the UK version of this has the Blu-ray Disc logo clearly on the disc, also the DTS HD Master Audio logo which would never appear on a DVD, plus it has the region ABC logo, which again would never be on a DVD.

Also you might have to enable Blu-rays in your blockbuster account, like with netflix? I don't know, just trying to help

thanks for the pic, mine doesn't look like that. With BB you don't have to enable BR, it's included in their standard price. I would have gone with netflix but I like being able to exchange in the store 5x per month for free.

I just put it in my regular dvd player and it plays...guess I answered my question.

That sucks, looks like that will be going back. Hopefully you get the right disk next time.

I think FRWL is the best movie in the Bond series, but Goldfinger might be the best "Bond movie," if that makes sense. It set the tone and style for the 21 that came after it.

Yep I get that view, FRWL always tops my list of favourite Bonds, but could easily be a great spy thriller in it's own right.

But yeah, agree with you there. I should have stated Connery was (imo) the best Bond, thus his best film is the best overall.

As an aside, it tickles me tono end how much love OHMSS gets these years later. I consider it the French Connection of Bonds: I feel like Popeye Doyle is ripping up Brooklyn across the atlantic while Bond traipses through Europe.

Question about Red Grant (Robert Shaw) and the train:

Similar to a question I have about Diamonds Are Forever:

During the call, Blofeld tells "Saxby" that Whyte has "outlived his usefulness", and orders Whyte killed.

So Blofeld didn't actually talk to Saxby himself; it was Bond to whom he unwittingly gave the order to eliminate Whyte; Saxby shouldn't have had any way to receive the order. Yet when Bond and co. rescue Whyte from his captivity, there's Saxby with a rifle trying to kill Whyte! How did Saxby get the order to kill Whyte?

It's possible that when Grant heard about the explosion at the Russian Embassy, he realized that the plan was being executed a day early and made his way to the train station.

It's possible that Saxby and Blofeld connected in the meantime on the phone and Blofeld re-iterated his orders to kill Whyte, this time to the real Saxby who complied which is why he got there after Bond has already been there for some time.
