I know this is the music (only) forum, but...
...Don't know if anyone here has the DVD of "Hell Freezes Over" by The Eagles, but it is quite nice. Reunion concert footage from April of 1994, and one of the nicest quality video captures of a stage concert I have ever seen. It looks great in SD, so I could only imagine what it would look like in HD. It had 1.33:1 video. The original DVD release had DTS audio tracks as well. Something not seen a whole lot back then. In fact, my DVD of the concert had only DTS audio and PCM stereo options only. A later release contained Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. Before it came out on DVD, it was available on LD. If that would come out on BD, I would be in heaven! - Rob J |

why? because it was shot on video tape? so? the x-files was originally shot on video in the early seasons. that doesn't mean it won't ever come on to blu-ray. a lot of television shows were shot like that. i imagine that eventually they'll come to blu too.

If it was shot on HDCAM, HDCAM-SR or DVCPRO-HD then it would be worth putting on Blu-ray. If it was done on the old U-Matic, 1'', BetacamSP or Digital Betacam as a lot of shows were, then it's not going to get any better than DVD.

I bought the Eagles farware tour in Melbourne, Austrialia and found it to still be one of the best AQ DVD I have ever seen; its too bad that this hasent yet been converted to BD yet. If you are truly an Eagles fan you should add this one to your collection. I will say that even though its a DVD its still incredible for AQ and PQ. I still listen and watch at least twice a year.

I personally got tired of waiting for the 12th of Never and decided to just go ahead and take my Eagles Melbourne Tour HD-DVD and burn a BD disk myself. Wow, talk about what a difference great sound as well as grest picture is worth. Now what we need is Diamond's Hot August Night I and II into both a BlueRay image a great audio quality track. Neil told me he did not think there was a complete video of the concert and I told him try Images as there plenty of them and he agreed that may be one method. I would like to see forums like this put together a WISH LIST for the top 25 Greatest All Time music events that need to be brought to Blu-Ray definition in multiple quality sound tracks and then pester the artist until they give in. Audio, on the other hand, would be different. The original release had PCM stereo and DTS surround. The argument at the time was that DD didn't have high enough quality to adequately reproduce the sound. They then turned around and rereleased it with PCM stereo and DD 5.1. ![]() I, for one, would pick this up on blu-ray IF it came with a lossless surround mix. |

I am pretty sure that the HD DVD has a DTS MA track with the PCM but no DD. If the Police show is my #1 concert disc, this one is 1A. I'm not sure what could be picked up on a burned BD disc that's not on the HD DVD. Except, of course, it can be played on a BD player...
I heard in another thread the company that did the HD DVD release and held the license on the disc, did not have any plans to release this on Blu. BIG BIG BIG mistake on their part, as this is a fabulous disc. That info is unconfirmed, just repeating what a poster had said. |

It has stereo PCM and DTS, not dts-MA. I heard that there might be a hidden dts-MA track. But, I've never had any way to test that myself. I love the disc and usually listen to the PCM track with PLII processing.

I have had this on HD DVD for a little over two years. It is one of my two favorite music discs. It is IMO one of the best multichannel concert mixes ever. It is so clean, clear, and detailed. I think the bass is nearly perfect on this disc as well. It is deep, tight, and punchy. One of my demo bass tracks is Timothy B. Schmit's " I Can't Tell You Why". Anyhow I emailed Warner/WEA about this time last year and enquired about them releasing this title on Blu-ray. Their response was "we have no plans at this time to release the Eagles Farewell 1 Tour on Blu-Ray". Hopefully they will change their minds soon. Perhaps a petiton should be started and sent to them?
