It’s crazy how slow traffic has become in the “regular” blu-ray forum. Most releases now barely make it a page and two major releases this week, Rampage and Super Troopers 2 don’t even have threads. Crazy.

Nope. I haven't either. Although I've bought a few UHD's... because why not. My receiver doesn't do 4K pass through, and thus haven't yet bought a UHD player either.
The $149 Sony model from last Christmas was mighty tempting, but then I figured if I bought that I'd automatically want to upgrade my amp and end up spending hundreds more. I guess I could have brought the soundbar from the bedroom. But eh...blu-ray still does the job for me. |

I'm a projector owner who can't afford to spend thousands of pounds on a legit 4K projector that comes anywhere close to the standards of my currently 1080p Sony, so I won't be going 4K for a good few years yet!

I'll never be able to afford a TV big or fancy enough to get the full value of upgrading to 4k, so what's the point? Maybe five years from now when prices -- for players, TVs and discs -- have fallen to current Blu-Ray levels.

I haven't.
I like the picture on my 2008-9 TV. One of the old Insignias before they became a first run brand and were second run grab bag items. Plus with the distance I sit from the TV, 4K isn't going to look any different from what I have now, so why bother? |

I haven't either. I just see no point to when BD is still perfectly fine. I have no intention of upgrading my collection everytime a new format comes out.

Player? A couple hundred. Wouldn't be surprised if the cost goes down over time. UHDs vary, but I've upgraded most catalogue titles for around $15 a pop. Blu-Rays were more expensive than that ten years ago. I resisted upgrading for a good couple of years, but once I made the jump out of necessity, the cost didn't really hurt me much. But hey, I wouldn't blame you for that. |

You are not alone!
I have a 4K TV (60"), but I'm more interested in its 3D capability. No 4K Player yet, but I have a few discs as part of combo packs. I suppose eventually I'll get a Player when the prices come down a little (assuming 3D capablility is retained), and I should move towards more 4K/Blu-ray combos over Blu/DVDcombos, but I've recently been diagnosed as mildly color blind, so I'm not sure I can even see the PQ benefits. I can see the difference between Blu and DVD (thank goodness!), but to me, even most DVDs look pretty darn good upscaled, and I'm unlikely to get a larger TV before I'm shipped out to pasture, so a 4K player is pretty low on my bucket list. Of course, this all changes if I hit the Powerball! |

No 4K here and no plans for it. I'm fine with Blu-ray. The difference between DVD and Blu-ray was tremendous. The difference between DVD and 4K? Eh. Blu-ray is very likely the last physical format I will be purchasing movies on. I'm not rebuying everything again.

i haven't and likely won't any time soon. don't have a huge tv and no where to put one. as others have mentioned no way i'm rebuying movies yet again either. sure when the prices come way down and it's time to replace what i have i will but aside from a very few of my fav movies i won't be replacing my blu collection with 4K discs. i also agree with the "good enough" idea.

If anything value has increased in the last decade. Last edited by HD Goofnut; 07-18-2018 at 12:04 AM. |

Blu-ray is more than enough for me. As stated above, no interest or plans to upgrade for the third time. I can't see the difference in 4K and standard 1080p looks great to these eyes, thanks anyway.

The thing that got me to adopt DVD was when they started releasing Jean Rollin movies in that format. I expanded to Blu-ray when BLACK DYNAMITE came out (with one exclusive "extra.") So far nothing in 4K calls to me.

I have not and don't intend to in the near future. It kind of creeps me out how suddenly 1080p is not good enough...

Maybe enough people around here have enough taste to have no interest in buying those movies.
