My friend recently bought a Samsung blu-ray player from Sears. He did some updates online but the player had problems playing some titles.Mostly Universal and Warner Brothers. He called Samsung and they sent him a firmware disc but the problem is still there. He called them back and was told that there should be a fix for the problem soon.Anyone else having this problem with Samsung? This is his first entry into blu-ray and he says he is disappointed so far.

That's your friend's problem right there. I'm not trying to be snarky, but I have to agree with madlost1.
My first Blu-Ray player was a Samsung BD-P1200. It was great at first but witin a manner of months it was basically a useless piece of junk. If it wasn't for the fact that I got it for free as an award where I work, I would have been even more angry. From what I understand, some of the newer player made since then are better by comparison (because the support for the particular player that I had and the one before it was nothing short of completely-god-aweful). But, that's still not saying much. Basically the common issue with them is that they are slow with their firmware updates and they seem to have the most problems when it comes to disc playback compatibility. It takes Samsung forever to get firmware updates out to make discs compatible... AND many discs that won't play on a Samsung player will often play in many players from other companies, even if the absolute latest firmware hasn't been downloaded to them. Additionally, I had a Samsung recordable DVD player that crapped out on me after maybe 6 or 7 months, and my aunt had a Samsung DVD/VHS combo unit that didn't last very long either. So, basically my advice is stay as far away from Samsung as possible for Blu-Ray players or any kind of movie-playback device if humanly possible. |

I agree with all of these. I purchased one as well and had nothing but problems, even after a firmware update. The features were great, but if they only work half the time it's not worth it to me. I purchased a different brand and have had much less problems. Good luck!

I am very disappointed with Samsung Blu-ray players and their customer support!
I cannot play 'The Incredibles' and 'Tron Legacy' with mine, plus there are a multitude of movies on Blu that have several and major audio dropouts! ![]() ![]() It seems that Dolby TrueHD audio soundtracks are the most problematic ones. And I'm at the latest firmware. Samsung is aware of the issues and is working on it; but the latest firmware update was a year ago! Simply not good enough! No more Samsung products for me, EVER! ![]() * Plus Samsung have infiltrated privacy with some of their laptops! ![]() Just Google it! |

See, now I had issue with my initial player, but the replacement has played flawlessly. As a matter of fact my son is watching Kipper on Netflix. Although I have read that there have been some issues with Samsung's here, I can understand your friend wanting to stick with like components. If not for the remotes alone. Funny thing is, I have a LG LED and once I get it mounted I'll set up my Onkyo HTIB. So I may just have to get a universal remote when the time comes. BTW, which BD player did your friend pickup? I'd recommend one that can be set up for wireless(if he has a wireless router). That way you can directly download the firmware updates to the BD player. Best of luck to him on whatever he decides.

I agree with these posts also. I had problems with a 6500 I bought last spring. When it worked, it worked great but I had a few movies that had audio dropouts and a couple that would freeze and skip for a few seconds. I called Samsung and they also told me to wait for a firmware update and that there should be one soon. These were movies that had been out on blu ray for a while, not new releases. I had it for 6 months and got BB to swap it out for a Panasonic. All the movies that would not play in the Samsung worked fine in the Panasonic. If you go to BB and look in their blu ray dept, all but one of their 25-30 open box players were Samsung returns. There were no Sonys and 1 Panasonic.

This Samsung Bluray is simply the worst!
I have been trying to watch the newly released Hunger Games on a Samsung BD-P1590. It wouldn't play. I downloaded and installed the latest (July 5) firmware from Samsung's website; both the Flash Drive and the CD versions. Both installs were successful but neither allowed the Bluray DVD to play. I called Samsung support and was told that the firmware upgrade was written before Hunger Games was released and the DVD will not play on my Bluray until the next firmware upgrade is released. And when can I expect the next firmware release??? I was told that the next revision should be released sometime within the next 12 to 14 months. I'm considering recording a youtube video of me shooting this worthless Bluray player full of holes. |

A good friend of mine loves his Samsung HDTV and he bought 3 Samsung blu ray players before he finally caved and picked up a Sony.
He had the first player bp1000 or whatever,... Not dead but still completely unuseable these days. He keeps it in its original box,... Paid like $800 for it open box deal. ![]() I helped him with lots of fw updates but he finally got tired of now knowing if a disc would play. |

I am using this with a Samsung LE40C530 TV. The navagation buttons on top and bottom of the home screen on the Blu-Ray player are not showing fully. I have set both the TV and the player to 16.9 and the home screen to size 1. However, still can't view navagation buttons fully when in Internet mode. Also, would a universal wireless/mouse combo work with this box. If not, can you recommend a suitable keyboard. |

I've had this player for some time with no complaints until I signed up for Netflix and found the menu updates to be quite slow... compared to my Playstation. The Wifi and ethernet work great and Hulu+ is good. I thought updating the firmware may help with the Netflix issue...
I updated to vBSP-D6500ZA-1032.1 and now it has a mind of its own! The player powers up and shuts down on its own. Did the reset and unplugged it overnight - without success. I'd like to go back to the previous firmware version - is it possible? My email to Samsung told me to check to make sure the plug was securely in the wall!!! ...and that the older version cannot be loaded but I can fill out a trouble ticket on my player for repair. My response was that it was insulting to ask me to look at the plug and it was THEIR update causing this. Anyone have suggestions? Thanks, Nick |

Their customer service is horrible stokester. I've been ask to unplug the machine, do a hard reset, etc. to fix issues and nothing worked. I ended up throwing it back in the box and buying a Sony S5100. Haven't regretted that decision.

The samsung blu ray BD5500 did the update by mistake, it was on download in standby mode and the update made it so it will not play any of my blu rays. Samsung told me to do the reset and it would go back to factory settings. That is not possible!
No more of these junkie blu ray players from mfgs that send out updates just to mess up what you have so you have to get it fixed or replaced. If it does not have an HD digital copy online you can keep it because the disc will not last! Last edited by m1beachbud; 02-27-2014 at 04:35 AM. |

(I'm posting this here because I can't post new threads.)
The above player is connected to a Yamaha RX-A700 receiver via HDMI 1.4. The receiver does not detect the unprocessed bitstream signal. All the other sound on the disk it plays. Yamaha had me connect my Playstation 3 set to bitstream output to confirm that the receiver does handle the bitstream signal. It does. It also sees the DTS-HD and Dolby-HD encoded bitstream signals when the player is set for those. This is the second Samsung player with this problem. The first was a BD-D5700. Has this been a problem with these players? I just want to be sure the problem is with the player before I return it. Thanks. |

I have a BD-E5700 Samsung. Nothing but trouble. Drops signal, freezes etc. The answer, I have to re-format it at least once a week. Unplug it for 20 seconds, plug it in, push & hold the "play" button in for 15 seconds. This wipes its memory clean & reloads new software. It's a hastle, but it works.
