Default Two step verification

http://kotaku.com/go-set-up-two-step...rig-1785733056

This morning, Sony quietly added two-step verification to the PlayStation Network, allowing users to add an extra layer of security to their PS4, PS3, and Vita accounts. Finally.

NOW GO DO IT. You can find the option by going to Settings -> PlayStation Network Account Management -> Account Information -> Security -> 2-Step Verification.

I did mine as well. I figured any extra protection is a good thing.

This is how I understood it. To access your account you will need to validate not only your password but enter an access code sent to your phone.

When you enable 2-Step Verification (also known as two-factor authentication), you add an extra layer of security to your account. You sign in with something you know (your password) and something you have (a code sent to your phone).
So say somebody cracks your email and password. In the past they have your account. Using this method they would also need your phone and have the generated one time code that's text'd to it to log in/purchase things. An unlikely scenario.

And if you PIN protect your phone (or fingerprint) it's even more unlikely. About time really!

yup, they send this via phone or email, whichever method you prefer.

other people have been finicky about it and upset they have to do it every single time.ive been googling about this a LOT recently, and sadly, its been up and more frequent this month alone.

this is a long awaited upgrade they should've implemented years ago.

About time Sony joined the modern world with this process. As someone personally affected in the past, I am all for it

Nobody had 2FA in 2011. Microsoft's implementation didn't come along until 2013.

Sony's still late to the party, but it would have been unheard of for them to pioneer the idea in 2011.

Seems like a double edged sword. Better verification method but you have the hassle of doing at least on PS Store with the free things constantly entering one time use codes and getting a load of the texts. Mainly because you can't shopping cart everything.

How is keeping your data more secure a hassle?

You saw the word AFTER right and just chose to ignore it? This should have come much sooner than it did is my point.

2-step verification is brilliant and I try to preach its benefits to everyone I know, even though most of my non-techie peeps are like "huh"?. Total no-brainer on Gmail and Facebook too.

It's pretty damn simple really - it means if someone steals/hacks your password, that's not enough. They need your actual cell phone, and only at the moment that randomly generated code is valid.

@ $60/month basic plan on cell bills here, id rather have a free internet email account as secondary. Anyways took Sony long enough. lol

You realize that even reading the word After my interpretation was completely, totally, 100% valid?

Good lord, talk about a ridiculous overreaction to absolutely nothing.
