Great to see THE MOLE PEOPLE from Universal's "Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collection" DVD set hit Blu from Shout, since another title from that set, THE LAND UNKNOWN, has already been announced by Kino Lorber. Has me optimistic we'll likely see more titles from that set between these two distributors and possibly Universal themselves. Here's hoping eventual announcements of TARANTULA, DR. CYCLOPS and especially THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN are all in the offing...

I did not know this was a 1.37 : 1 (original ratio) , The German blu is a 2.01 I believe , I wonder how this will compare ?

The oar is 2:00:1

If shout is presenting this in 1:33 that is incorrect. They’d better rethink this as they almost made the same mistake with attack of the puppet people. The film was shot in 1956. By then universal was shooting for 2:00:1.
I sure hope they fix this

I thought that the 2:1 ratio was either the rotten SuperScope process or a mislabeling of film cans and that films weren't actually shot for this ratio in the '50s. Bob Furmanek, can you chime in? Won't THE MOLE PEOPLE be wrongly cropped at 2:1?

I begged my parents to take me to this film back in 1958, when it played our local second-run theater. It was the first horror/sci-fi/fantasy film that I ever saw. At the tender age of 6, it really scared me!

cmac,
Glad to hear. The listing on your website says 1:33 so that is why we thought that. Thanks for chiming in.

And I stand corrected. Mr. Bob Furmanek himself sent me info from Box Office magazine November 10,1956 issues.

Mole People was composed for 1:85. (not 2:00:1)

So the German Bluray was also not the correct OAR. Glad Bob chimed in.

1:85 it is.

Thanks again CMAC for letting us know that you are doing this one right. We appreciate all that you do at Shout! Keep up the good work!

-Mark

Then what will it be ? Your own product information page states that it will be 1.33:1.
Opps, just noticed that someone else has asked the same.

As a matter of studio policy, UI went 100% widescreen in the spring of 1953.

Documents are here.
