(CNN)"La La Land" was the darling of the nominations for the 74th Golden Globe Awards, which were announced Monday by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. It pulled in seven nominations, including best picture, best director and best actor and actress nods for its stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.
"Manchester By The Sea," and "Moonlight" were nominated for best movie, drama, along with "Hacksaw Ridge," "Hell or Highwater" and "Lion."
Casey Affleck, Joel Edgerton, Andrew Garfield, Viggo Mortensen and Denzel Washington will vie for best actor in a motion picture drama while Amy Adams, Jessica Chastain, Isabelle Huppert, Ruth Negga and Natalie Portman are competing for best actress in that category.
"20th Century Women, "Florence Foster Jenkins," "Deadpool," "La La Land" and "Sing Street" were all nominated for best picture, comedy/musical.
Best TV series nods went to "The Crown," "Game of Thrones," Stranger Things, "This Is Us" and "Westworld."
Anthony Anderson, Gael Garcia Bernal, Donald Glover, Nick Nolte, and Jeffrey Tambor were nominated for best performance by an actor in a TV series, musical or comedy.
Best actor in a limited-series nominees are Riz Ahmed, Bryan Cranston, Tom Hiddleston, John Turturro, and Courtney B. Vance.
"Atlanta", "Blackish," "Mozart In The Jungle", "Transparent," and "Veep" were nominated for best television series, musical or comedy.
Best actress in a limited series/TV movie nods went to Felicity Huffman, Riley Keough, Sarah Paulson, Charlotte Rampling and Kerry Washington.
Rachel Bloom, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sarah Jessica Parker, Issa Rae, Gina Rodriguez, Tracy Ellis Ross will compete for best actress in a TV musical/comedy.
Best supporting actor in a series, mini-series or TV movie nominees are Sterling K. Brown, Hugh Laurie, John Lithgow, Christian Slater and John Travolta. Olivia Colman, Lena Heady, Chrissy Metz, Mandy Moore and Thandi Newton were nominated in the same category for actresses.
"Strings," "Moana," "My Life as a Zucchini," "Sing," "Zootopia" and "Trolls" were nominated for best animated feature.
One winner has already been announced: Meryl Streep will be honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in the film industry.

Jimmy Fallon will host the awards ceremony, which is set for January 8 on NBC.
I'm not surprised. The reviews were great. The box office was insane. And the Globes have the advantage of comedy categories for movies and performances.
There's no chance though that we'll see Deadpool(or Cap 3 for that matter) in the Best Picture category at the Oscars. It would be nice if they'd for once nominate one of these flicks that gross a ton of money and are critically acclaimed, but I have a feeling we'll see them all get overlooked yet again.

It would take an absolutely perfect CBM film to get nominated in the Best Picture or Best Director category at the Oscars and we haven't gotten one yet. Deadpool is definitely a shining example of what the genre can offer though so never say never.

I don't know what a perfect comic book movie looks like. The Dark Knight apparently wasn't enough, although at least that was back when there were only 5 Best Picture nominees.
I hate the fact that Sing has a nomination, let alone 2. I saw the film for free and I still want a refund. I feel sorry for the animators who had to create those twerking bunnies.
I haven't seen enough nominees yet to really weigh in but there's a good mix of expected names and surprises.
The only snub that really bothers me is Eye in the Sky. But I guess it came out too early in the year to be remembered at awards time. That and maybe the content is scaring off people(although the movie was apolitical).
Serious question: Do people (in the industry or otherwise) actually care about any awards besides the Oscars? I mean, while Oscar trivia is a fun thing to discuss decades later, does anyone know or care offhand the recipient of ANY Golden Globe (or any other award, for that matter)?
That being said, I'll bite.
Decent list of nominees (from what I've seen). The continued separation of genres for some categories is preposterous, especially given that it's not even a case of "separate but equal." Good to see Gibson there. Also glad Elle made the list of foreign film.
For the shows, they did not great. The nominees should be The Affair, The Americans, Better Call Saul, Mr. Robot and Bloodline. The fact that they went 0/5 on that is disconcerting. otoh they got a lot of the actors in those nominated so that's good.
On the other hand, they had EXCELLENT picks in the miniseries category.

The "early release" crutch can't really be a thing anymore since recent films like Grand Budapest Hotel and Boyhood garnered noms. Ex Machina as well.

Yeah that was a solid film. I thought maybe Rickman would get some posthumous boost. I'm not overly disappointed by its lack of placing, however.
