Default 1080p Plasma to 4K Dolby Vision.. Suggestions

I currently have a 60" Samsung F5300 which I absolutely love as long as the lights are off in the room. The PQ in a dark room is outstanding and other than glare, I have no complaints whether watching a Bluray, satellite, streaming, gaming, etc.
But I am starting to get the itch for a 4K set (with Dolby Vision). The only 4K content I'll have will be whatever iTunes movies get the upgrade. I expect it will be a decent amount. Other than that I have no discs yet other than GotG2 and my Netflix plan isn't the 4K one either. What I'm wondering is, is it worth ditching my 3 year old Plasma when I would have so little content at the moment. I can't afford an OLED so I'd be looking for a mid-upper scale LED unless I could end up getting an OLED for under $2000 next year.

Having a 1080P plasma, I know virtually nothing about 4K. With that being said, my un-educated advice would be to save your money for an OLED.

Its possible to get OLED's under $2000, check up on slickdeals, especially using a sale price along with price protection, this Sunday, there was a deal on 2017 65" Oled to get around $1700 net. So yes just wait for the right moment.

I'm kinda waitin for more content I have a 3 year old 4k non HDR tv that I really like but definitely want to upgrade soon. I'm thinking the longer I can wait the better with the tech changing at warp speed it seems

1080p to full fat HDR should be really nice tho so I can understand not waiting there are some nice titles out, I only have like 10 so far but I imagine that will change in the next year.

Hold out for a deal, i snagged my 65 inch B7 OLED in July for $2,034 after sales tax from Frys. I did the same route i_max mentioned which is this.

Get a Citi card(i like the costco one), wait for a deal to pop up on slickdeals website(mine was $3600, but LG had $500 off and frys screwed up and had $1k off at exact same time). Buy the TV, then use "Price rewind" via the credit card to get Citi to 'rewind' the price down $500 more by matching one of the shady NJ website prices(i used tvsuperstore). Turned a $3,600 OLED into a $2k oled with tax included doing this. PLUS the Citi card adds 2 years warranty to all purchases! so thats like another $100+ if bought from the retailer.

It takes a bit of effort, i think i probably invested 10 hours of my life into looking out for the deal, getting it, and getting the price rewind stuff settled via the CC company, but 10 hours for $1,600 ain't to shabby.

The longer you wait, the better & cheaper OLED TV's will get. You might buy a UHD BD player to start with, which can help boost your 1080P PQ when playing UHD discs. A gorgeous blonde girl friend I had in college told me good things come to those with patience. She was right!

I did pretty similar too, I got the 65" E6P for $2200ish, this was Jan this year. I knew 2017 TV's didn't have 3D so I couldn't wait any longer, fortunately got a very nice panel and a great deal.

I may wait till spring/summer next year then and try to get an OLED. Sounds like I can get one for under $2000 by then. I'm in Canada so everything costs a bit more but waiting nearly a year should help. In the mean time I can get some more discs and iTunes 4k codes!
