Default SXRD vs. DLP?

Alright, so I am thinking about buying a new TV. It's a toss up between a DLP or an SXRD. But today when I was at Best Buy, their SXRD display looked pretty crappy. I have a few concerns, one is overscan. I can't stand it, it bugs the crap out of me when I am watching a movie and stuff gets cut off. Two is screen protection. I have posters behind the viewing area and they will reflect into a glare screen. Three is geometry errors. Right now the TV I have has some pretty bad errors with it right now due to correcting the overscan. My price range is between $1200 and $2000. I'd prefer a TV 60" or larger. Any suggestions?

Is there a custom A/V installer in your area with demo rooms? In my experience, I'd never demo anything in a big box store. Lighting is crap, their signal repeating gear is crap, they don't condition the power, they don't tune the displays and they'll put some SD demo via coax on a $4K HD display.

I'm partial to the SXRDs. I go to this great place in Austin called A&B TV. They carry Sony, Toshiba, Pioneer, Proscan, JVC, to name a few. It's great to have a seat, take my own Blu and pick what I like.

I had reliability concerns because of that .. which was one of the factors that pushed me to the SXRD...a great boxing week sale on the SXRD didn't hurt either as the sammy ended up being more expensive.

So far everyone seems to be liking the SXRD better... Unfortunately I don't have any place like a show room around here. But I do have an ultimate electronics which is better than Best Buy IMO. But the SXRD at Best Buy looked like crap compared to the DLP's. There were shaddows on everything, weird jagged edges, everything. But all those things made me think it had to be the signal it was recieving. I'll have to actually check out a REAL TV place. I'd like to get the SXRD for cheaper than what Best Buy was asking though...

I saw a Sony SXRD at a BB in my area yesterday, and it also looked horrible compared to every other set around it. Then I noticed that it was because, for some reason, it was only receiving a standard def signal. Everything was stretched and blurry and...well typical SD. I asked a tech to hook it up to the HD feed like all the others, and when he did...WOW! It instantly went from being the worst set to the best! This will be the TV for me in a few days when I get my budget together. Trust me, the DLPs are nice, and it's all about personal preference, but the SXRDs to me are the clear winner! Good luck with your decision.

I just got back from my local BB to check out what they had for new releases. This one has the A3000 on display with a SD video stream (zoomed) fed from a coax. I can't believe they sell anything. The salespersons must be gods.

SXRD. Overscan is only 2%, lowest tv overscan out of box. No moving parts & No wobulation.

i think you'll find that anyone with an SXRD, like myself, will swear by it. go to a sony store to see one setup properly.

i've never seen a HD display setup properly, i got a kick out of this setup at my local BB: 1080p capable HDTV, 1080p capable player, composite connection. if the SXRD looked crappy its probably because a monkey set it up.

So I went to UE last night. They had the SXRD's on display there with an HD signal and everything... They were better than like 99.999% of the DLP's. The only one they couldn't beat was the Mitsubishis. There's a 65" for $2000 and it looked amazing. Plus the price was cheaper. I might end up going with that, but I need to find some reviews. Unfortunately I can't remember the model number.

EDIT: The Model number is WD-65733 and it's gotten great reviews from what I've read so far.

I picked up a Sony A3000 SXRD. I really can't stand DLP since I am VERY sensitive to rainbows. The A3000 is the best out of the box set I have used. Of course you have to take it out of torch (vivid) mode. I recommend SXRD over DLP mainly because of rainbows and banding that I see on DLP.

It's impossible to compare sets on a show room floor. Your best bet is going to more exclusive shops that may have them set up correctly/better than a chain.

I also have been looking at the Mitsu HD-65833 v. the sony 55SXRD

Checking the difference, CNET gave the Mitsu 733 a 8.6 and XBR a 8 but still nothing for the 833 or SXRD. I am in the market as well looking for something that is great for PS3/BD/PC.

SXRD without any question. No moving parts, minimal overscan and just an amazing picture when set up right. I have the 60" and whenever anyone comes in their jaw drops at the beauty of the picture. can't go wrong.

Yeah there aren't any around here so I am kind of screwed... How do you know if you're sensitive to rainbows or not? And when you go to a theater with DLP projection, do you see the rainbows? I didn't notice it last night, but that doesn't mean I wont notice it later on. One of the problems with the SXRD's is the fact that I missed the ones that were around $2000 and now they're closer to $2800 because they brought out the newer models. XBR's I believe...
