Evil Dead II, The Deer Hunter, Saving Private Ryan, 2001: A Space Odyssey, all Carpenter UHDs: They Live, Halloween, The Fog, Prince of Darkness, Christine, and Escape From New York. Studio Canal is on a roll, I can’t wait to see what they’ll do to Don’t Look Now. I wish they’d release the films separately without spending $40-50 on each film (optional, without the extra stuff, I can only budget around $20-30 per film. I want Blue Underground’s new 4K transfer for Zombi 2 but that’s too expensive. I don’t have a CD player to play soundtracks on, just a vinyl player.
American Psycho also was a massive upgrade. There’s a few films I saw in ultra AVX (premium theatre here with Atmos, and everything else) that I have seen recent releases on, even though I own the UHDs I can’t comment on them. Schindler’s List seems to be a really nice upgrade, just not to the extent of American Psycho, and Evil Dead II though. I hated the last Blu of Halloween, and I thought the added HDR greatly improved it. Lion King wasn’t a big upgrade, just a minor one, with great Atmos. The Avengers (Assemble) is. It’s not as old of a film as this thread was likely made for, but it’s definitly worth mentioning. It’s easily Disney’s best UHD to date. Last edited by Tristold; 01-22-2019 at 09:27 AM. |

2001 looks amazing... but that didn't surprise me much. What did, was Evil Dead! I'm still shocked how great it looks on 4K, I was not expecting that at all.

I don't have many 4k UHD's but of the ones I have I would say Halloween (1978) and Evil Dead. I still need to pick up 2001 ASO, but the boutique labels have taken control of my wallet with all the great cult horror titles they are releasing on BD, many of which come from 4k scans of the film negatives.

Ultra 4K can be Kaleidescape so Lawrence of Arabia wins hands down for me it's almost unbelievable how great it looks.
