I picked this up to compare with the HK disc and PQ wise it beats it hands down. It still has some EE in the mix,(probably on the master), but the DNR that plagued the HK is largely missing,(again, I believe that some exists in the source). The bitrate is far higher as well, although still on a BD-25. Dispensing with all those useless additional soundtracks from the HK disc was quite beneficial.

I got mine the other day and when sampling it, I noticed some nasty macroblocking during the
[Show spoiler]last fight scene, when Ma has the AWP on Tony, pulls the trigger but it is empty, and after he swings the AWP at Tony to stop him from shooting and both guns are up held up, the entire screen pixelates completely.
This does not occur in the HK version. So really, both versions have their problems.

The PQ seems like a slight improvement as well over the HK version, probably because of the lack of redundant tracks like Sky_Captain said.

Sorry for the late reply, I went through the scene question at normal speed and again frame by frame. There was no pixelation and I'm using a PS3 for reference. That said, one of my good friends bought the UK to replace the HK disc and mentioned pixelation in that scene. He uses an HTPC and I thought he was talking rubbish at first, but apparently not.

A bad batch, perhaps? Seems odd, he bought his from exactly the same HMV as me, two days apart.

I used an PC as well when I sampled it. Need to check my standalone player. Maybe it only occurs on PC playback?

Edit - No macroblocking on my BD30. Seems like it only it only occurs on PC playback.

That's bizarre. I've sent my friend an email to confirm that it was this exact scene.

*edit* Apparently so.

You mean "forced" as they're burned into the image or just always on except with the help of certain software to turn them off?

TBH, I am not sure. IIRC, they looked more like burned in then just always on.

I've been looking for screencaps of this, but I haven't been able to find them.

If somebody is willing to provide screencaps of this UK disc, I would appreciate it!
