Default Rumour - Horizon Zero Dawn 2 - Switched to PS5 development

According to VGC, Sony is planning to turn Horizon into a trilogy

Horizon Zero Dawn 2 shifted to PS5; described as "gigantic" with more freedom to explore and possible co-op mode

Possible standalone co-op game coming that carries progress over to HZD2

Yeah but I thought PS5 was going to struggle running open world games.

We should know not to take any notice of a site posting PS bashing click bait.

Co-op mention worries me as I’d rather they focus on crafting an amazing single player experience. But I love the original so I’ll trust them to deliver a strong follow up until proven otherwise.

Maybe they could touch up the original 1800p/30fps game in the process to 2160p/60fps & give us a free update alongside the sale of Horizon 2.

That would actually be nice to get a patch for the original to run on PS5 at native 4K/60fps. I can see Sony benefitting from additional sales digitally too to make it worthwhile.

I am genuinely looking forwards to a sequel because even having not finished the original fully, it was a solid game.

Yeah they should do that to coincide with the PC release.

I'm assuming any major launch is being focused for the PS5. Doesn't necessarily mean that PS4 will be excluded...to me that makes sense.

The co-op I'm not a huge fan of, but I'm not going to let it detract from my excitement.

I'm fine with co-op as long as the game doesn't put you in unmanageable situations that force to play that way (Destiny).

If the original game is a top seller 100 game, I imagine it'll get a nice boost on the PS5 if the development team has a bit of time to upgrade it in resolution and fps.

I never completed the story to the original, but unlocked most of the world. I should get back to completing this game in my spare time. This is a strange time to be a video gamer, with a trickle of titles it seems, in terms of AAA big games. I need to check what new games are on the way in summer 2020 for PS4. The new PS5 games, the best of them probably won't appear till 2021. This sequel, till 2022 I bet.

Thanks.

"Horizon Zero Dawn 2 is said to be ‘gigantic’ in scope with a larger game world and more freedom to explore it than in its predecessor."

That sounds promising. It'll be interesting to see if the new game doesn't bottleneck the player to each new section, as with the first game, needing to pass through narrow paths to reach the larger open lands.

I just started playing through HZD again and tbh, i can't bloody wait for the PS5s NVMe to come along and speed up these atrocious loading times. They're just so awful i can literally end up browsing my phone to pass the time.

I do hope there's a patch for HZD before the sequel releases on PS5 give the PC release is around the corner too so i can enjoy it again in 4K. I actually left off where i played from but because its such a huge game and been probably over a year, i kind of lost my way in some story elements.

True that the PS4 loading times are 1 minute or more on average for many games. The worst is waiting for Days Gone to load. First the start screen, then the loading screen with the little dog ring spinning in the corner and a fully black screen. Show a picture like other games do, even if it slows things down a second or two.

But yeah, PS5's loading times should be impressively fast at the start anyway.

On topic, I'll have to load this game up again this week.

When I bought my new TV I booted it up to see how it looked in HDR along with Spider-man and great googly moogly I forgot just how bad the loading times were. Especially the initial load. I have been wanting to replay it since late last year but I am determined to hold off until I can play it on my PS5. It will probably be the first game I play, especially if the sequel ends of being a launch game.

One thing i'm really hoping is that for PS5 that they're actually going to release a new patch for it to be more in line with the PC release. One area atm i've noticed is not the worst but definitely due an upgrade is things like the water. Now on the little river areas its fine but the much more open areas lool quite poor. It doesn't look properly like water or reflect very well either.

There was also a very odd lighting issue at night on one mission. If i turned the camera towards the moon, it was fine and "normal" but then when i faced forwards as you would normally or to the right, it would artificially seem to darken. Really bizarre and of course, loading times even if just on a PS4 edition with better graphics were cut down, that will be a huge help.

Hoping to finis this and get my platinum and replay on PS5 alongside God of War. That is a bloody good looking game.

If I remember right weren’t there also no or very little water effects when swimming through lakes? I remember water being some of the few visual issues that I had with the game.

I think it's because there's one main pool of large open water area in the main game outside the little rivers and they felt they graphics would be better served being targeted elsewhere which fair enough, it's an impressive looking open world but with next gen hardware i'm hoping they boost it across the board and focus on those weaker areas.

The one thing i do know is that Guerilla not only let Kojima use their engine for Death Stranding but were keeping an eye on it for the PC release too. Now it makes so much more sense because they were planning to use it for a PC release of HZD. Hopefully that means they've been optimising HZD for a PS5 patch too. My sister bought a digital copy of it that i'm playing atm so even if that's the only version offered for an upgrade, that's fine atm.

MS haven't exactly detailed their "Smart Delivery" atm.
