Default The All Of Doctor Who Including Chibnall Thread

I note that the original Doctor Who thread has been closed since my absence, and instead the 'Non-Chibby' one is still open, so I've created this thread as a celebration of all Doctor Who.

Since I last posted on here, I greatly enjoyed The Power Of The Doctor, which I thought was the most perfect conclusion to Jodie Whittaker's Doctor, and I am greatly looking forward to David Tennant's return. Ncuti Gatwa should be an excellent Doctor too, and Millie Gibson is certainly a fine actor (judging by her Corrie role as Kelly Neelan) to be playing his companion Ruby.

Best is to begin with the first episode of the revival, Rose. Great jumping on point as it slowly introduces you to the essential aspects of the show, such as the Sonic Screwdriver and the TARDIS.

It depends on how much of an enthusiast of sci-fi and old tv you are.
If you are a lover of both, dig in the old series and take your time.

Personally, I like the show, but I am not an avid sci-fi consumer, and my favorite kind of television was in the 90s and early 2000s, so I started with the revived era (with the ninth doctor).
For a regular viewer it could take time and effort even starting from here, since already 20 years have passed since and tv narrative developed a lot and in other ways.

Three threads and we still have to click into the UK sub-forum to get to them.

Sci fi and old tv shows I am good with. Just seems like a lot to see.

The best way to dip into the classic series is probably with a 4-parter that works as a standalone. Therefore, I definetly reccomend TOMB OF THE CYBERMEN, CARNIVAL OF MONSTERS and THE BRAIN OF MORBIUS.

Over the past year+ or so I've finally gotten into (modern) Doctor Who after years of bouncing off it. Something about it kept willing me to keep trying, and I'm honestly glad I did. Even though I do struggle with much of the show's tone and cheap quality, it's been enjoyable to watch it consistently improve.

I began with the 1996 Paul McGann TV movie and have continued on from there with the 2005 revival. I'm currently in the middle of series 7 with Matt Smith as the Doctor. I think he's been my favourite.
I'm using this page as my reference for watch order:
https://www.geekyregards.com/p/docto...honiverse.html

I found Torchwood to be abysmally bad, but it surprised me by improving drastically for the third and fourth series.

I caught myself judging Doctor Who to my own detriment twice. The first time was when I discovered the series as a stack of Tom Baker DVDs in my girlfriend's mom's entertainment center and I turned it on. I decided it was WAY too cheap and cheesy. Despite that however, I did become a fan. The 2005 series premiered not long after and I found myself laughing at the idea of Eccleston being the Doctor alongside the rough 2000s era CG and, again, WAY too cheap and cheesy.

Moral of the story is I need to stop judging Who on its budget.

Interesting points. From Eccleston through Smith the BBC actually put some money into the show and it looked pretty good at times. Going forward, it remains to be seen if they'll get some of that sweet, sweet Disney money, or if the budget comes from the BBC only. The show will be competing with Star Wars, Star Trek, and all the other shows, so if it looks cheap most people will skip it. (And all the endless BB/Dalekbuster comments about how "it's the greatest thing ever" won't mean diddly.)

It doesn't exactly look cheap right now, and there is no evidence to suggest people are skipping it.

Dooms Day announced:

https://twitter.com/bbcdoctorwho/sta...470565889?s=20

Massive misstep for the merchandising side. I don't understand why you'd do a multi-platform project like this and centre it around a new character, rather than someone we already know and love. I know the press release mentions 'fan favourite characters', but the main character is still Doom. Why am I supposed to care about someone I don't know?

Is Disney+ going to be involved in this somehow?
