Short Circuit is in 1080i... why?? - Blu-ray Forum

I saw the movie last night but realized it is in 1080i.

PQ is still very good for an old film but I'm wondering why it can't be 1080p.

Is it worth the $10? I've been thinking of picking it up for nostalgias sake. The PQ is good? Comparable to what other 80s movie?

The PQ at times looks very good. There appears to be quite a bit of crushing and there are artifacts and dust that appeared at points throughout the film. That being said the majority of the film looks very good.

I cannot confirm whether it is in 1080i or if that was a type-o on the back of the case. This question has been asked of Bill Hunt both on The Digital Bits and in his forum here and we haven't seen any reply.

Never an issue for me, I have to say. One of my favorite movies as a kid on BD, no brainer. But I have a few years on you, mate.

Check your tv info it should state what Resolution the movie is running in

Haha - I saw this movie as a child as well, Dutchie - by the time it got to Peru, where I grew up. lol.

I remember me and my family loved it. Gonna have to buy it now. Besides - who am I to resist the allure of a $10 Blu-ray?!

The PQ is very good. I'd say it's about 80%-90% the quality of Full Metal Jacket. See my post with screenshots:

Dang it. Bought the 2014 combo release because this site and back of package say 1080p... but it's a lie, it's 1080i and 29.97 fps. Submitted a revision to the listing. So disappointed, deinterlace only helps a bit. Was really looking forward to watching this classic and the sequel again. Meanwhile the sequel is thankfully 1080p 23.976 fps although the PQ leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe one day they'll do new transfers of both.

it's not actually 1080i, it's telecined so it';s 29.970fps but every 4th and 5th frame are blended so your player performs an IVTC to bring it back to 23.976fps.

This is how NTSC DVDs work, not sure why they did it on a Blu-ray but they did.
But Blu-ray spec doesn't allow for 1080p30 so it's called 1080i
