Blu-ray title sees 80,072% sales spike at Amazon Sales for Blu-ray disc format title No Country For Old Men spiked 80,072 percent upon availability on Fri. at retailer Amazon.com. The Blu-ray disc format version of No Country For Old Men ranked at No. 84 on Fri. evening to double the demand for the standard DVD version of the title (ranked No. 187). Other Blu-ray disc titles that held gains on Fri. included The Brave One, up 113 percent, The Invasion, up 90 percent, and Monty Python's Life of Brian, up 82 percent. The spur in Blu-ray disc sales follows an announcement from Warner Bros. this month that it will defect from the HD DVD camp and produce high-definition content exclusively on Sony Corp.'s Blu-ray disc format. Retailers this week, including Best Buy, Circuit City and Amazon.com are offering incentives to purchase high-definition content. Amazon this week is offering Blu-ray disc titles as low as $14.99 and up to 53 percent off select Blu-ray disc titles. In addition, it slashed prices for select HD DVD titles up to 53 percent off. NPD Group this week said that Blu-ray stand-alone unit sales recorded 92.53 percent market share versus 7.47 percent market share for HD DVD in the week ending Jan. 12. |

Lol..an 80K% increase..what a funny way to approach that statistic.
I didn't think Amazon was still running the 'lots of BR moveis for 14.99 sale anymore'... |

It's not quite as exciting as you might think.
If Amazon had just 1 order before the 'spike'. How many do you think they would have after an increase of 80,000%? It's the grand total of 800 copies. Nice, but no doughnut. Mind you, if Amazon had 10 orders before the spike then the 80,000% increase would boost it to 8,000 copies. Much better. ![]() |

All it means is that there were an increased number of preorders for this movie. 800x more pre orders. I wonder what could have sparked the rush to preorder this movie? The fact that Warner brothers went Blu only is not likely to cause a 80,000% sales spike. The fact that No Country for Old Men earned the most oscar nominations on Thursady is the actual cause. Nice bit of journalism
