I don't see why Disney couldn't include the Streamline dubs for the selected films they own. Wouldn't theoretically, StudioGhibli own those dubs as well?

I made a mux months ago which used the Disney video transfer of Totoro on DVD, but with not only the Disney English, original Japanese, and French, but also the Troma (Fox) English. It took several tries to perfectly sync up Fox audio with Disney video, as I don't like the video transfer on the Fox DVD.

Yeah, it feels like if the 25th Anniversary Blu-ray of Akira could include the Streamline Dub, than a future Blu-ray for Totoro should too...

I hope that the Streamline Dub becomes available on something other than an out-of-print Pan & Scan DVD, because that's how many of us older fans were introduced to the film and how I personally know it best.

Disney doesn't use the alternate English dubs. The only Ghibli films on Blu-ray that include the alternate English dubs are the American disc for Grave of the Fireflies and Castle of Cagliostro and the Australian special edition disc for Arrietty.

Oddly enough, not all Ghibli titles are put out and dubbed in the US by Disney, as they seem to avoid the ones with uninteresting or inappropriate subject matters that would would be difficult to change without souring agreements (Ghilbi has a "No Cuts" policy that was formed when Miramax tried to cut Princess Mononoke down to gain more showings per day). Poppy Hill and Marnie are from G-Kids (distributed by Universal) and use dubs produced by independent talent agencies. Fireflies is from Sentai and of course, uses the Streamline English Dub as it was the only one produced and still surviving.

The Discotek release of Castle of Cagliostro uses the Streamline dub in addition to the Pioneer one and an alternate dub made for US-Japan airlines. Oddly enough, the US Works of Miyazaki set included the JP disc with the swear-free Pioneer dub instead of packing in the Discotek disc. The explanation for this is that Castle of Cagliostro is a Miyazaki work that while Gilbhi owns, is also co-owned with Toyko Movie Shinsha worldwide (TMS Entertainment). Discotek must've gotten the rights from TMS for their DVD and BD, while Disney cut a deal with them to allow the JP Gilbhi disc to be included with the US Works set.

All the discs I mentioned include multiple English dubs not just the common one found on most other disc. The Aussie Arrietty special edition includes both the horrible Disney dub and the good British dub. I believe the reason why the old Japanese Tororo DVD used the Streamline dub instead of the Disney version was because Disney had not dubbed it yet at the time when the Japanese disc was released. The same with Laputa. The Streamline dub for Cagliostro was the dub made for Japanese airlines and is what is included on the Miyazaki collection not the swear-filled Manga dubbed or the Discotek produced family friendly edit of the Manga dub. The Sentai disc of Grave of the Fireflies uses both the original Central Park Media dub and a brand new dub created by Sentai.

I only like this dub. And I really hate the dub with the Fanning sisters. They don't even pronounce Satsuki's name correctly. I have the audio of the Fox dub, ad I was thinking of pairing it up with an HD video of Totoro. But it was too much work with synching and everything. So I'll just watch my DVD I have of the Fox version. It's not as good a picture, but the dub is life.

I know the rule was made because of Nausicaa's first dub, but I thought it was also because of the cuts that Miramax was planning to make anyway that Ghibli sent the "no cuts" katana.

I never knew that they had to ask permission to change the title to Kiki though.

The Japanese R2 Buena Vista/Gilbhi release from 2003. Think PQ simluar to the Disney/Buena Vista R1 but with the streamline dub in lieu of the newer one.

Grave of the Fireflies' old dub was actually from Central Park Media in 1998, and Sentai did redub it in 2012. Both dubs are on the Blu-ray, with the Sentai dub being exclusive to Blu-ray (their DVD only has CPM's dub). Also, Cagliostro's second dub from 2000 was from Manga Entertainment and Animaze, not Pioneer. The Disney Miyazaki boxset only has the 1992 Streamline dub for whatever reason (they had to sub-license the film from Discotek). The clean version of the Animaze dub was exclusive to Discotek's Blu-ray, which also had the unedited versions of both dubs.

Ghibli does apparently have a hand in producing all their dubs these days, co-funded by either Disney or GKIDS. The ones from GKIDS aren't really done any differently from the Disney ones, except they might have smaller budgets. Kathleen Kennedy is a producer on many recent Ghibli dubs from both companies. I believe the other Arrietty dub was done so it could be released in the UK and Australian markets earlier, since Disney took a while to release their version.

The old dubs of Laputa, Totoro, Kiki, and Porco Rosso are unavailable right now, but I guess it's possible they could turn up again one day. There just isn't that much interest, and Disney/Ghibli probably don't give much thought to including them.
