Default Amazon's "The Man In The High Castle" (Season 3)

Starting on November 20th, season 1 will be on Amazon Prime.

http://www.ew.com/article/2015/01/15...-pilots-review

Quote:
Premise: An alt-history saga adapted from the Philip K. Dick novel of the same title imagines America in a world where the Axis powers won World War II—by beating everyone else to the bomb and nuking Washington D.C. The year is 1962, and the United States is split in two, à la Berlin. The Nazis control the East, the Japanese control the West, and the cold war between the former confederates threatens to explode, pending the outcome of political instability in Germany: Hitler, it seems, has Parkinson’s, and not long to live. Against this backdrop, we meet a variety of characters suffering or surviving each oppressive culture. Two of them in particular—Julianna (Mob City’s Alexa Davalos), investigating the murder of her sister, and Joe (Luke Kleintank of Pretty Little Liars and Bones), a newcomer to the resistance—are on a collision course, drawn to each other by the mystery of illicit newsreels depicting a different, better history, one where the Allies carried the day. The films are rebel art, producing an Anonymous-like subversive known only as “The Man in the High Castle.”
PS: For reminder, Philip K. Dick is arguably (or not) one of the best Sci-Fi writers of all time, having under his belt "Do Android's Dream of Electric Sheep?" (the base for Blade Runner), Minority Report, Total Recall ("We can remember it for you Wholesale" short story) among many other works that have been adapted to the big screen.

I may not have the time to watch it next month, but I'll definitely check it out at some point. It sounds really interesting, and it's about time I actually watched an Amazon show.

I just saw this trailer, and read up about it! Sounds incredible!
I missed the pilot, due to never really watching Prime streaming(), I'm assuming it will re-air when the season starts next month?

I've never heard anything about this. I watched it this week, it was fantastic! I can't wait to see the rest of the episodes once they're released.

Can't wait. This was by far the most impressive show during the last pilot season.

If you're a Prime member you can watch it (the pilot episode anyway) right now.

I am, and thought about it, but was hoping to wait until it was a little closer to the series air date. Not to mention my dvr is so back logged right now and will need a few weeks to clear it and get caught up! This time of year is always jam packed for me: fall tv in full swing, MLB playoffs, NFL, NHL and NASCAR.

I watched this pilot last week and nearly started a thread myself. I love the concept (big fan of alternate history) and enjoyed the episode, looking forward to the full series!

The full season was released yesterday on Prime. I'm currently watching episode 3 and I'm loving it so far.

So is this worth watching after Jessica Jones? I dig the premise

I watched the first 3 episodes last night, and love it! I hope this receives a BD release!

A few observations:

[Show spoiler]What happened to Italy? Lol! They were part of the axis too.

I'm assuming for the Japanese to have invaded the west coast, that would mean the pacific fleet was still in Pearl Harbor. Thus making the attack a lot more costly and would mean no fleet to battle at Midway.

Are we lead to believe that Hitler did not go east into Russia(which ultimately played a huge part in Germany's downfall) and instead continued the invasion of the U.K.?

[Show spoiler]I read up a bit on the Wikipedia article for the book so I'll try and answer some of these.

This map was very helpful for me to understand the territories of both powers:

It seems that Italy is part of a semi-autonomous empire of its own that extends down into central Africa and Turkey. No mention of it in the show so far though.

From what I understand, the entire US Navy was destroyed at Pearl Harbor definitively, so there was little resistance on the west coast to combat the Japanese.

As far as the invasion of the Soviet Union goes, I can't find much else about that other than that the Nazis were able to continue east past Stalingrad and annex much of the European portions. It seems that there is still some resistance in the eastern portions of the Soviet Union however.

The original book is actually quite short in comparison so there's a lot of speculation in delving into the specifics of the world he created. But it's still interesting to think about what might have happened. I don't think it's very plausible events might have led to the world that is described but still an interesting thing to think about.

Ah ok! That helps explain a few things! Thanks much BG!
Looks like I will be picking up a copy of this book now! Just to curious about it!

[Show spoiler]Did anyone catch the origami unicorn in the diner? Nice little nod to Blade Runner.

Anyone finish the season? I binged watched it and it's great. The ending was weird but I think I understand why they ended that way.

I went to Amazon Prime to watch something else, but the banner ad for this series captured my interest. I had heard about internet only series being released all at once. I never watched the TV shows Lost or Twin Peaks, except for half an episode of each.... but watching TMITHC, I feel like I'm watching a combination of both !! I binge watched 5 episodes last night.

The only thing I would change, is that I would spend twice as much time with the parallel story lines, before switching. The short times between the changes now, seem abrupt, sometimes.

When I watch the Nazi Officer John Smith (Rufus Swell) I think I'm watching Commander Lee Crane from Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea (David Hedison).

Smith's son, reminds me of ST:TNG's Wesley Crusher.

I was really really wanting replica gun maker Frank Fink (Rupert Evans) to get a Mohawk, but, I do like his "Clark Kent" eyeglasses.

And, "The Marshall" (Burn Gorman), with his duster and shotgun, had me thinking of Tombstone...

And, I Love the use of the origami animals... this IS a Phillip K. Dick story after all !!!

I've made it through ep 6, which was the most satisfying ep so far, for me. Staring to really flesh out the characters now...

-------------- Now watching ep 9.... some lovely twists and turns.

I finished the first season yesterday. How did Tagomi do that at the end?!?!

I feel like this season left me with more questions than answers.
